New mpc problem

now every time i turn on my mpc, it makes a wierd buzzing sound. and i put in the floppy when it says to insert it and it doesnt recognize it (maybe the floppy drive is broken?). please help me out.

put the disk in the MPC before you turn it on...a least thats what i used to do..
If its saying 'disk read error' you need to re formatt your floppy.
If not...well then i dont know...someone on here might though.

it used to say problem loading floppy, or something. but now it just says insert floppy all the time. and it makes a wierd buzzing sound, also the light on the floppy drive is never on.

Time for a new floppy drive for your mpc2000. You can get them for cheap at newegg, tiger direct.

And how would you go about re-formatting?
I got some brand new floppies from staples(IBM formatted) and copied the files off on Forat.com onto one and tossed it into the new MPC 2000. It came up saying "MPC 2000 Boot ROM V 1.00"
It reads for a second then says, "Disk Read Error!!"
Guessing the floppy needs to be reformatted?

Would appreciate the help.

Take floppy

Insert into said computer floppy drive

Right Click to format as "FAT"

Download AKAI MPC2000 1.72 OS from http://www.akaipro.com (follow links to MPC2000 Support)

Extract the 1.72.zip STRAIGHT to the floppy (dont copy and paste)

Then insert disk into MPC2000 before startup.

Turn on. If it doesnt work, try another floppy disk (rarity that it might be the disk is scrooged)
If it still doesnt work, get a new floppy drive.

That would be my plan of attack...

I didnt have access to a floppy drive, so I had to use a friends PC who still had one...

What's the difference, it's the same thing in principal and both work.



i think he means... dont put the compressed file on the floppy disk.

anyone know why this procedure doesnt work with zips? i tried FAT formatting a zip and extracting the OS onto it, but it didnt work. It only works with floppys (or so far in my limited experience)

because the 2000 classic is probably set up to boot from the floppy drive... or the f-rom if you have that expansion.

the 2000xl can have the OS update done with atapi/ide zip...

Ive formatted a zip via the MPC (once i booted it with the PC FAT formatted floppy with the OS on it), then using the tool in the MPC OS transferd the OS onto the zip, and can run the MPC off the zip drive with the OS no sweat.

So my question still remains. Why cant you FAT format a ZIP via PC and do the same process that you did for the floppy (at least i couldnt)

This is all semantics tho. Ive gotten my MPC2k Classic up and running now. I just dont know why zip didnt work, when you format a floppy an extract the OS exactly the same way...

And you can run straight of an MPC formatted ZIP with the OS on it (thats what im doing now)
