IDE cd-rom drive to 2000XL?

Hi!

I got myself a MPC 2000XL, but i've never got any sound out of it yet. I can't use the floppy drive since MB of my computer doesn't even have floppy connector, and I have no way storing samples to floppies.

But, I have old IDE cd-rom drive lying around. Can I connect it to 2000XL's internal ide port and load samples like that? I also have old power supply so that's not a problem...

I can't seem to find any scsi devices for decent price.

Nope can't do it with an IDE cd-rom.

replace the floppy drive with a card reader. Google SCSIforsamplers. they sell card reraders and SCSI CD-Rom drives for samplers.
SCSIforsamplers is also a friendly and knowledgable member of this forum.

OK. Thanks for the info and BIG thanks for that link! I think I'll go for CF reader mod.

There's other options out there too

But I had to chime in here. CD-Rom does work. Just won't burn.
Leaving the need for another removable media device
Just a wee bit tricky if you don't have some kind of electronics knowledge.
And the means of mod'ing things and their cases/layouts

In about a month or two I will have my two latest monsters mod'd and I'll post the pics, details, and inside shots.

The one will have an internally mounted CD drive. (Just not yet mounted and buttoned up)
got some decisions to make on exaclty what to use, how to lay it out, and a couple obsticals to overcome to make it look stock

Sometimes stuff gets ruined in the learning process. trial and error....

An internally mounted CD drive???
Why would you do that if you can't save to a cd drive anyway? you are better off just keeping the card reader internally and using an external SCSI CD drive.
Just curious coming from a fellow 2KXL modder with an internal 9GB HD.

I've just about got it now.

I just think it'd be sweet to be seeing the MPC2004XL.... with the internal CD Drive, screw it, DVDRW just cause.

Even if it doesn't write, it's still cool.

The trick is mounting.

As we're all aware, there is limited room here. But I think I can make it happen.

It's not so much a mod for use or for practical purposes. It's more of a 'because I can'

I think it will be a first.

Waiting for the donor machine to arrive. Should be here by friday.

But seriously.... I think a 2000XL with a optical drive look would be kinda 4000 dope-ish looking.

I was considering using a slim drive. But that wouldn't look as cool.

BTW, that is our NDISK 9GB SCSI drive installed in the lower left corner of his MPC. We have those available now for those of you would would like 9GB of fast, quiet, reliable internal storage.

This i beings replaced with a faster, cheaper alternative. (Tested in my buddies with parts for one of mine

The problem with a hard drive is moving parts.

Quiet? Kinda. Maybe compared to a ten year old hitachi 3.5", but in reality, not bÝ much

So.

Screw the hard drives in these things. Due to the 9 gig limit, and cheap compact flash cards and adapters.

It's to be replaced with a compact flash to scsi adapter and a compact flash card. Mounted internally. For cheap ! I think the diy cost is something like $25

Why use a moving drive when u can use compact flash. Why use a SSD when u can use compact flash. It is such a cheap method being that its been around as a cheap method for some time.

A cf card and an adapter is silent, uses less power, less heat, no vibration, and is faster.

U can get everything u need on ebay.

I'm about to unleash 2 how to's showcasing two mpc2000xls maxed like mad with about $100 worth of stuff, or less, utilizing 3 (total) storage and removable storage methods.



You'll all dig it and be able to do it on your own easily with stuff bought on ebay. Or wherever. For cheap!
