The only option that I can think of for you're situation is purchasing a line level turntable such as the ones that pioneer and JVC make. These kinds of turntables do not require pre amps. You can hook them directly into you're MPC or whatever and instantly hear sound.
If you need a fix right now, and you want to get started fast without dropping a ton of money on a mixer and a better turntable, you can drop into you're local best buy! Best buy has decent pioneer Line level turntables for about $100 dollars.

Is your turntable connected to a home stereo?

If so, use the home stereo headphones output (stereo 1/4 or 1/8 out) to mpc sample in (dual mono male rca) until you get a pre-amp/mixer going.

1/8 inch stereo to Dual mono 1/4 inch

well I got my preamp from a kit - I mounted it myself, soldered it and it works fine. took me about 1 hour from unpacking to using it. cost - less than $10 ... and Im happy with it :)

ive seen preamps here in poladn for like $40 so it is not that much as well if you dont want to or dont know how to solder
peace.

I would rather use the tape or aux out (tape out is also called tape rec) of a home stereo than the headphone out. In that case the cable would be 2x RCA male to 1/4" TRS male (BTW Lampdog you mistake RCA for TRS :) )

There's lots of ways to 'earth'(ground) electronic equipment, you could even attach the ground wire to the metal case of your MPC for example. The main thing you need is a phono input. Turntables put out photo signals which require a conversion to make them into line signals. Putting a photo signal into a line input is wrong and your sounds won't sound right.

Yes it's the same machine except for the card reader.

Do you mean a STR8-80 turntable?

If you do, the yellow output is just for digital out only. There are no RCA outs on the STR8-80.

Just go to a used record store or something and buy a used stereo mixer, I got a Radioshack 3-channel mixer that has a pre-amp in it and it even has a 14-band equalizer for like ten bucks.
