Hello guys,
First post so bare with me please. I am on an MPC-2000xl OS=1.14. The ZIP drive is Iomega SCSI 250mb.
Today I purchased an MPC-2000xl, 1 Iomega SCSI ZIP 250mb drive. So I am just taking what was sent to me and configuring it. I have not tested the ZIP drive, nor do I have a ZIP/floppy drive in my current PC. So I can't update my MPC's OS right this second to see if that fixes it.
The problem:
While trying to link the Iomega SCSI to the MPC, I have received two error codes. Which I'm sure you guys know well. "No SCSI Device" and the "SCSI conflict with ID#6".
What I've tried:
First of all, every time I tried to find the SCSI device I turned the MPC OFF.Then turned the Iomega ZIP ON, followed by the MPC. The first thing I did was try to reformat the ZIP disk. In the format menu it listen my device correctly. Only, on the number for the amount of space to part to each partition, is was blank. Which leads me to believe there is a problem in the head on the reader. Because why would my MPC pick of the device but not have information about the disk unless the drive worked fine up until the reader?
I double checked the switch on the back of the SCSI, so the termination switch is ON. Then I put the SCSI ID on the Iomega to #5. Still nothing..So I opened the Iomega's casing to see if there was a selector switch with 6 different ID banks but there was not. Only what appeared to be a switch to ground switch, for both the termination and the SCSI ID# button.
On the MPC I tried every SCSI ID# there is. 0-7 excluding 6 because it did not show up. I'm assuming the MPC is #6. I also tried to load, then when the error showed I ejected and popped the ZIP back in with no luck.
My thoughts:
#1) I need to get version 1.2 on a floppy and load it into my MPC. Then try to load the SCSI ZIP afterwords.
#2) My ZIP drive is garbage. Because like I said I have not tested this equipment previously. However my MPC did rear the drive as a drive just did not pick up the ZIP disk. Which leads me to believe the head on the reader is broken, due to lack of lubrication or a bad ZIP disk being placed into it. However it does not click really bad. It gives two soft clicks when it first turns on then just solid humming from that point on. So I'm not sure.
I plan to install a card reader soon anyways, however if you guys have some input on something I missed I would love to hear it. BTW all flames are welcomed as to how well I formed this post, lol. Only thing left for you to criticize is my spelling, so lets hear it, how was my spelling? Do I pass initiation? lol. It's 5:00AM I must need sleep. I don't usually talk to myself through my computer screen and act like I'm also the person reading as I type, but for some reason that's what I find myself doing RIGHT now.
