MPC is feezing up, Screen becomes scrambled with numbers

My buddies MPC 2000xl has in internal zip. The MPC keeps freezing up on him , and the screen becomes scramled with numbers and letters. It stays jammed until he turns it off. Any suggestions?

Check cables for cuts,
or pulling away from connectors,
loose connections, try new zip disc,
could be bad disc or bad files,
try disconnecting the drives power and ribbon cable from the MPC main board and see if that solves it - if so - prolly a bad drive

I've got a bad zip 250. Some nights I start craving the 2000xl and just using the 32 mb ram. I got that screen the other night... it freezes up, and just shows random numbers. Second time.

yes this has happened to me only about 4 times over 7 years. i think it only happens to me when i leave my akai on for too long. last it happened i was editing a pad in params while the beat was playing and then it just when haywire. numbers, code all over the place. beat got all jammed up too. had to turn it off. 4 hours in the lab down the tube... if its consistent then i say check your ram and your disks.

Dude..........I had the same issue! My problem was the main board was damaged. I sent it to the shop the fixed it some what. Hope thats not your issue.
