Mpc2000xl to S3000xl

I have just bought a s3000xl to complement my mpc and I wish to transfer some of my mpc sounds onto the s3000xl.
How can I do this ??
I have a zip drive for each unit and have the 8outputs board and therefore digital in out on the mpc and s3000xl.
please tell me there is an easy way to transfer my sounds ?
I am going absolutely nuts trying to do what I thought would be easy.

The two units have different sampling mechanisms. The S2000/S2800 would connect seamlessly with the MPCXL. That said, you can sample your sounds from one unit to the next, or use computer software to convert file formats. AWAVE may help you as a PC user. MPC Editor will help also.

Do a quick search at the Akai pages at www.synthzone.com. There are some companies that offer software to do this.

But also, read the XL's manual closely, it should be able to read some of the older file formats.

trouble is I seem to be stuffed.
I simply wish to hack up my drumbeats on my computer (emac no scsi in sight also no 0S9 so no mesa) and then drop them into the s3000xl where the mpc2000xl will then become the sequencer. In my supreme ignorance I assumed that because the mpc2000xl read wav files that the cd s3000xl would be the same, but no.

So it would seem that my dream rig is badly flawed.
I am used to preparing things on the computer and then dropping them freely into the mpc but I can't do that with the s3000xl it seems,
So I was hoping to use the mpc as an intermediate stage where the mpc would convert the wav file into an akai sample format, however this doesn't seem to work. Why on earth akai have made it that the s3000xl cannot read the basic sample created on another akai sampler of the same period is beyond my logic.

there must be a piece of software capable of saving a sample into a format an akai s3000 could read ?

Actually the S3000 series is before the 2000 series. That's why the 2000s can read WAV format. If anything, the 3000s would probably read AIFF or Sound Designer formats, which were the top dogs at the time.

Since you use a Mac, your situation is a little different. MPCPGMMaker can read the MPC files. But, getting the S3000 files is the issue. I looked at....

Your Emac has USB. There are USB to SCSI devices. Check out the following one from Adaptec....

If you can get a money back test with it, you'll find your answer. You can use Mesa in Classic and/or Alchemy in Classic and you'll find out if it all works. I need to do something similar w/ a scanner.

that SCSI cord is highly unlikely to work because just as the mpc2kxl the s3000 does not have the capability to negotiate transfers over that terminal. perhaps i am wrong though... i've seen the s3000 listed on my recycle dump list of SCSI samplers so that might entail that it does posses that function... it's definetly a question for sure.

The older S-Series samplers all spoke with Macintosh software via SCSI. programs like Alchemy, even Peak and Recycle offered that option. That's one of the reasons they were so important during the 1990s.

So, no. The SCSI interface of a S-Series sampler and a MPC are not the same. The MPC is proprietary. It was esigned to be a complete studio. The S-Series is much like other computer SCSI interfaces. The S-Series sampler was apparently designed to work in tandem with other equipment. The issue though, is will they work with a USB to SCSI interface?

What's the deal fellow MPseers, If I'm reading this right the 2000XL & S3000XL cannot transfer samples back and fourth VIA S/PDIF. I'm in the market for a rack mounted sampler that would allow me to transfer samples to and from the 2000XL VIA S/PDIF from the rack sampler as well as Sound Forge 7 on my PC. I was looking at the S3000XL or 3200XL until I read this post. My bugget is about $600 any high or low end sugetions for what I'm trying to do.

S5000 or 6000 go for that or less, they can probably do spdif, but I'm not sure if it will be compatible with the mpc as well.

Even though you can't digitally transfer the samples via spdif, you can actually digitally sample them and have no loss of quality, which is almost as good just takes a little longer.
