Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I had a beat I had worked on previously. Today I went back to work on it. Once I was finished, I intended to save the .mid file, overwriting the older file. Just as I pressed the "save" button, my MPC2kxl froze. I cursed for a sec, but I really started cursing when I noticed that the .mid file had vanished altogether! I tried using EasyRecovery Professional to recover the file, but it came up with nothing. This really pains me, since it's going to be real hard to recreate the lost beat... Any ideas???

Damn man, the card reader connection did cross my mind, but I wasn't sure. But yeah, this is the second time something like this has happened within a month, and in the years before that (i.e. the years before cf), no such problems. So you haven't found a way to recover the files?

Acid kalle, I'll still take this (cf) over the click of death (zip)...

I save over files all the time and never have an issue

Is your CF card a type I or type II? If not, that could be your problem....

Did you format the CF card with the MPC? If not, that could be your problem....

Is the ribbon cable seated firmly into place 100% seated? If not, that could be your problem....

Wierd.... I've never had this happen.

I've found no way to recover the files, but since I started saving under a new name every time I save, it hasn't happened again. I'm not sure what kind of card reader I have; the previous owner installed it, but it's hotswappable. H also claims that files don't save correctly if they're saved more than two subdirectories deep; I haven't tried yet, I believe I had a freeze once when creating a new folder, also, right after I got the machine. Haven't had any other problems.

I've tried reformatting on the MPC and the PC, didn't make a difference. As long as I don't try to overwrite files I have no problems, so it hasn't really been a big deal since I figured that out. I back up my files on the PC regularly, too.
