playing over a 2 bar loop

i want to lay down a 2 bar drum loop for tempo then go to the next track and start doing my melodies. Is there a way to add more than a 2 bar melody in the next track and have track 1 continue looping the 2 bar loop until i push stop? If i played the melody for eight measures what I'd like to see is the mpc showing 8bars on the sequence with track one looped for eight bars.

Another option is to record the new track in a separate sequence and use the second sequence feature (manual, page 36) to make your first pattern loop under the new sequence.

Thanks for the tip ill try it tonight. Basically what id like to do is play live on top of a loop while recording and not have a predetermined set of bars. kinda like how when you turn loop off it will just keep adding bars while your playing.
