what is it that makes the 2000xl special?

My real question would not fit in the subject, my real question is, what is it that seperates the 2000xl and other big mpcs from like the 500? i have myself a 500 and love it, everytime i switch to my 2000xl i never seem to create in the same way. What is it that makes everyone want to upgrade to a larger one?

The 2000XL runs off solar panels hidden on it.


No actually I hate the 500 just looking at it. 12 pads kills it for me and it looks like I'm working on calculator.

On the real though, the ease of use, number and depth of the features, workflow and the feel of the pads are what makes the 2kxl my favorite MP...

Ive owned a 1000, worked on the 2000 quite a bit, played with a 2500 in the store, and been shown the 60. I loved how the swing and the sound of the 60 set it apart, but no waveform editing and minimal memory made it kind of frustrating to use. If my xl shit the bed I would probably cop another, or look for a 3000. I will never pay Akai for a new model MPC, they are in the same league as behringer when it comes to build quality and without JJOS, the Nukai MPC's lick scrote.

Its a handsome machine.

Essentially the 2KXL is your biscuits & gravy. You got everything you need pretty much. Great workflow too.

I'm not disputing the fact that the 2kxl is rad, i own one mind you. I just am wondering what makes it so special to all of you, but you have all explained it pretty well. i guess i started on the "nukai scrote licking 500" so i am used to it, switching to somethign with some much more options i guess is wierd for me, i'm sure i'll get used to it....

but whats with not being able to here what your sampling when the sequence is playing? i mean come on.....

the XL is simple at first glance and for just getting on the machine and doing it.

but behind the scenes (the open window`s) it is full of tricks.


The workflow is very solid and quick, and when you are used to the machine and you are pushing buttons real quick and jog wheeling around at a speed where other people cant even read what`s on the screen(s) ... you dont gotta worry about your buttons breaking.

here are the drawbacks:

-only 2 pad mutes.. they should have used the number muting system like FL and the MV.

-the screen lign issue, but that is after like a decade of it being left on.

-only 32 megs of ram, which for most is triple what they would need but for some it is not enough.

-if you throw one at someone you will be charged with attempted murder, unlike the nukai machines... throwing nukai machines will only get you charged with littering.

-no JJOS, nor will there every be one.. but that is okay though because this OS does not NEED to be replaced.

-the mpc doesn't read mp3's or youtube videos when they are loaded from the card.. so that might seem quite a draw back for people these days... oh wait no mpc can do that. good!



i dont know, the XL is an awesome machine, but if you like the 500 then have fun with that. you should midi both of them together. use the 500 for the 128 megs of storage and sequence it with the 2kxl. that would actually be awesome.

i'm not sure if thats the term for it, and ai'm a bit teipsy. but i'm able to press play on my sequence then record a new sample whilst the sequence is still playin.

One strong point about the 500 is the built in effects...sure beats spending 300 dollars on an effects card, that should of came stock standard on the 2k to begin with.
