in your preferences/setting window in reason, select the midi input you have your mpc connected to in the "midi" and "advance midi" sections. on the mpc, where it usually says "DRUM:Newpgm", set it up to trigger outboard devices (no internal sounds) like this.. "MIDI:device01"
when you want to control a midi device in reason use the "midi record" track selector to choose which device within reason you are triggering (when you select a track to record in the sequence bottom window.. the little midi plug icon that appears infront of the track name is the record selector).
after you record you can also make a permanent midi channel assignments by assigning a midi channel at the top to trigger specific instruments on the rack. it's the main patchbay reason always defaults with on the rack (forget what it's called. rewire or something?).
you basically just find the midi channel you want to assign.. choose a specific instrument on the rack to be triggered by midi channel number and use the mpc "MIDI:device" selection i showed you earlier to trigger each specific channel. the "device" number on the mpc corresponds with the midi output channel.
hope that makes sense,

oh and a chromatic PGM really helps in reason for making use of redrum and other synths. try making your own though cause redrum has a funny layout.
