Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By rondiesel Tue Sep 22, 2009 8:37 pm
I just upgraded 2 an MPC 2000XL.

It has an internal zip drive.

When I load a Zip 100 (the internal is a 100 as well), the mpc seems to recognize the drive...ATAPI displays....but right underneath it there's the dreaded '??????'....

Then....

When I attempt to format the disk, I get "ATAPI Error!"

Can I fix this somehow????

That is because the mpc doesn't recognize the format of the inserted zip disk.

Try another disk, and/or format the disk in pc to fat.

yeah the ???? is because your disks aren't formatted correctly. i dont know if its the same format btw 2000 and XL.... but i think it should be the same. id say try a brand new disk and see what happens. also you might want to just switch the device in the load screen. just scroll all around to scsi, f-rom, etc... sometimes that wakes up my internal.

so you mean to say that your drive used to be an external zip? if so that could be the problem....

Did you ever solve this issue? I just upgraded from 1.14 to 1.20 on an XL with an internal zip 250. Before the switch my XL was reading all of my disks fine (those created on the machine with 1.14 and another with 1.20). Now I get the question marks. Is there a way to get the MPC to recognize the drive again?

1.20 isnt meant 4 zip, only cf's w/ the addition of larger space.... it could also be the type of disk u use... do u have new ones

Long time ago I had floppy in my 2kxl, os114.

Went to internal 250 zip, stayed on os114.

Went to mcd. still on os114.

I only have a 512mb cf card. Works fine. os120 locked my gear up whenever I tried it
so I went back to os114.

Me, after trying 120 then reinstalling my mcd, I placed my floppy back in and went back to 114.

i resolved the issue but i don't really know how. i ordered a cheap zip drive off of ebay. out of the box it didn't work! but when i put the old one in, it read everything flawlessly. i still haven't had a problem.

oh and i was refunded without having to return the faulty merchandise....good shit huh?
