Recording samples, pre-rec 100ms wtf? how to sample right

So I'm trying to sample sounds into the mpc-2000xl but I'm not sure what setting I should have the pre-rec time set to.

I already have drum sounds and I'm just playing them out of my computer and recording into the mpc, but I keep losing the punch of the kick drums because I don't have the right pre-rec time set.

It goes from 0 to 100ms I'm wondering does anyone know what I should have it set to?

Any tips would be much appreciated.

should I set the threshold low as possible? when I set it high it seems like it cuts off more of the beginning of the sound, i'm not really getting it

I'm starting to think I need to just get a usb zip drive and dump a bunch of wav files into it

yeah thanks man, I'm not too turned off by sampling everything it's just frustrating having a ton of great samples I've worked on like a bunch of 808's that I sampled myself and I want to get them on the 2000xl

I do love the way the 2000xl sounds and I just bought both a 2500 and a 2000xl at the same time and I like the xl so much better! I'm selling the 2500 asap... I love the way the 2000xl sounds as the samples are mixed together it's just nice and warm

So yeah I guess I'm just going to have to get better at sampling directly into it,

the pre-rec time is tricky I seem to be getting mixed results. Like I'll lose the punch/click of some samples I'm playing into it, but not others.
