Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By da-baron Sat Nov 07, 2009 7:47 pm
i want to move all the events in a track that is 8 bars long back an 1/8th note. anyone know of a quick way to do this?

example:

sample is triggered on 1.03.00, 2.03.00, 3.03.00 etc
i want the sample to be triggered on 1.02.00, 2.02.00, 3.02.00 etc

1) Main screen F1 Step Edit.
2) hold GOTO and press << (first bar)
3) hold GOTO and press >(first event)
4) COPY
5) press <(event) as many times as you have to to get to the time you want (number of times depends on quantize setting in main screen)
6) PASTE
7) hold GOTO and press >
8.) DELETE
9) repeat steps 3 - 8

Use with caution any pad you press while in step edit will sequence. If you **** something up you can always go main screen undo sequence. I suggest anyone who doesn't know step edit to learn it. It's easy and fast.

Surprize. Once again. I own the 2000 since 1 year and never used the GOTO button cause I didn't know the function in the step edit mode. I always thought its just for the locator points on the main screen.
In StepEdit I always used the shift button + < or > .
Well I guess thats what manuals are made for and why I should take a look into it sometimes. Just when I thought there is nothing more to know about the machine, someone come up showed me that this is totaly wrong.
thank you

1)In Main screen press Edit
2)Copy from sq 1 tr 1(original sequence) from 1.03.00 to 5.00.00
to sq 1 tr 2(or wherever you want) starting 1.02.00

no prob peterpiper happy step editing! I barely touch record + play all anymore, that metronome is annoying anyway no?

What about turn timing off, shift track timing earlier/later 1 tick, all notes.

TRY

PG 40 in the 2k and 2kxl manuals.

NOTE VALUE: OFF (OFF = 96 ppqn resolution)
SWING: 50 (NO EFFECT)
SHIFT TIMING: EARLIER/LATER (from what was said I'm thinking LATER would be the choice)
AMOUNT: 1 (1 TICK LATER)
TIME: CHOOSE YOUR TIME
NOTES: ALL

I'm just thinking out loud while
on 2 tall cans of Mickeys, lol.

But yeah, look into it and test it out.

I think he wants earlier. Never tried your method lamp.

OHHH, I see, earlier now that you brought it to my attention that I'm a dufus, lol.

But yeah, I wouldn't call it a method I'd just say it's actually collectively shifting the timing of every note in the track earlier that's all.

I used to do it alot on my triton extreme too. It works really good and can give any track a lazy or rushed feel but not TOO lazy or TOO rushed.

That's just me though.

too bad that the amout setting Lampdog is talkin about is an absolut value.
It would be possible when the amout setting would be relative. So every time you press "DoIt" the event would move 12 steps further(LATER) or backwards(EARLIER).

Another point of the 2000 OS that should be a lil more flexible.

Anyway, I really like this machine. :)

I think it's 1/4 earlier.

Is it, really? I didn't know that, I'll re-check that (w/ timing off and swing off).

I'm on a 2kxl but I don't think that little thing would have changed between the 2k/2kxl. I'll look and try again.

Yes, we can add, thanks.

The original triggered timing = 1.03.00, this is 1st bar, 3rd quarter note, 0 ticks.
The destination triggered timing = 1.02.00, this is 1st bar, 2nd quarter note, 0 ticks.

The distance between the original and intended triggering is 1/4 of a note.
The original event is exactly placed on a quarter note timing (the 3rd quarter note in the first bar).
The intended trigger event is 1.02.00 which is the first bar, 2nd quarter note, 0 ticks.

Move 1/4 note to another 1/4 slot, simple.

da-baron said 1/8 when imo 1/4 was originally meant UNLESS, we are all talking double tempo
like the homie Prah has brought to my attention, then 1/8 would be absolutely correct.

2kxl manual, pg 40 and 2k manual pg 40.

Setting the Time Correct (Quantization)
When data is recorded to a sequence in real-time, the note event is time corrected to the value
specified here.
Also, when the bar, beat, or tick point is moved using the STEP < / > key, the value specified here
is used.

Select the Timing: field with the CURSOR and set the quantize rate by rotating the DATA
wheel. The options are as follows:
OFF No timing correction. Moves the point by one tick each time the STEP < / > key
is pressed.
1/8 All notes are moved to the nearest 1/8-note (48 tick).
1/8(3) All notes are moved to the nearest 1/8-note triplet (32 tick).
1/16 All notes are moved to the nearest 1/16-note (24 tick).
1/16(3) All notes are moved to the nearest 1/16-note triplet (16 tick).
1/32 All notes are moved to the nearest 1/32-note (12 tick).
1/32(3) All notes are moved to the nearest 1/32-note triplet (8 tick).
It is also possible to make fine adjustments in the following Time Correction window.
CAUTION: Timing Correct is only valid for note events. Control Change or Pitch Bend will not be
time corrected.
To make fine adjustments in the Time Correct window, select the Timing: field with the CURSOR
key and press the OPEN WINDOW key.

Timing Correct

To time correct recorded data, set the following fields and press DO IT[F5]. Only the track
selected on the main screen will be time corrected.

• Note Value:
This is the same as the Timing: field on the Main Screen.

• Swing %:
This appears only when Note Value: is set to 1/8 or 1/16. Shift the note events of the
even beats at the ratio set here to add a swing to the rhythm.

• Shift Timing:
This shifts the note event back or forward the number of ticks set in the amount: field
below.

EARLIER shifts forward
LATER shifts back

Page 41
Chapter 3: Recording Sequences
• amount:
This sets the amount of the shift timing. The maximum value varies depending on the Note
Value settings. For example, if the Note Value is set at 1/16, the maximum amount is 12
which corresponds to half of the time correction value (24 ticks).

-----------

I said, NOTE VALUE: OFF means that AMOUNT is not locked at 12 steps/ticks.

I've actually done this before many times and not just stating from the manual but the manuals is saying the same thing that I've learned and put to use many times.
