SCSI woes

I haven't been having luck with either my Iomega Jaz 1GB or Zip 100MB.

I have some luck with the Jaz until it powers down after being idle (30 minutes), then it seems my classic 2000 doesn't see it anymore as I can't write or load. If I turn off the 2K and start over again it works.

With the Zip, I can only get as far as formatting the disc, when I try to save the OS or an .APS or .ALL file it will either say "too many files", or "write error" (I think?) I have the termination "on" and set to "5"

I have absolutely no problems with the floppies, but I hate using a bunch of floppies when I have long samples.

Are you connecting the cables and powering up the Zip drive before you turn on the MPC?

yes, I have the SCSI cables connected and driver powered on before I turn the power on for the 2K. I also have the discs (ie. zip, jaz) in the driver before I power on the MPC. I read that some where in the forum, as I have been searching for answers to my problem.

I'm starting to think there's something wrong with my MPC or the MPC's SCSI port, but I'm scratching my head because like I wrote before the Jaz drive works up until it goes into idle mode (after 30 minutes of inactivity) I may have to save stuff every 15 minutes so the Jaz drive doesn't go into idle mode and just give up on the Zip drive. arrrrrgh!

Pretty sure you have tried this, but just in case.

What I do is switch to a different SCSI ID then back to the SCSI ID of my Zip drive if it doesn't respond to my initial commands. Never had to do it with my Jaz drive, if it works at all I don't see why it wouldn't keep working? I have my Jaz drive set to 0, HD to 1 and Zip drive to 5.

Is your Jaz drive first in your SCSI chain (mine is, but shouldn't matter what order they are in)? If you disconnect one are you still having trouble (disconnect after powering everything down)? Hope its minor, whatever it is

I tried switching the destination to where I want to save/load from both the drives (ie. Jaz & Zip) to floppy then back to the drives and it can see the Jaz (on the screen it will indicate Iomega Jaz including the 1GB and A-Z partition) but when I try with the zip hooked up it wont work for the zip.

I don't have the two drives chained up, I have them hooked up one at a time.

I am seriously thinking about getting that CF reader from SCSI for Samplers, because these Jaz, Zips and floppies are going to make me stangle my MPC.
