Two Questions Today Please help!

1. Do I need the fx board to do the "low End Theory" on my samples, if not how do I do it - Ive fiddled about with the mixer but am gettin confused

2. Is there a quicker way to assign a sample to a pad once ive trimmed it other than havin to shift save and shift load.

Im trying to keep all my stuff organised on my scsi hard drive but like others on her im gettin confused. I want to find a way of saving a sequence and its sample in one bootable folder.

Yes. Press SHIFT + PROGRAM, then choose DRUM1 and you'll get to the ASSIGN screen. Press the pad that you want to assign, and roll the jog wheel to select the sample you want to be in it.

No. The low end theory means that you have the same sample playing on two pads, and that one pad plays it normal and the other pad has all the highs filtered out ----> more low end!

I'll give you an example:
You have a sample called "loop1" that you have assigned to pad X. Now go to the ASSIGN screen and press the pad that you have the sample in. It should say "loop1". Now press pad Z and assign the same "loop1" sample to this pad. Then press PARAMS and you will get to the PARAMS screen. From here you can tweak the sound, and what you want to do in this case is to filter it. Move the cursor to the filter and roll that jog wheel so it goes down to about 10 or less. Now you have that same sample, but with all the highs filtered out.
Next go back to the ASSIGN screen and press pad X again. Move the cursor down to where it says PLAY MODE, and switch it to SIMULT (you can have up to three pads playing simultaneosly). Now move the cursor to the right and select pad Z to play simultaneously.

Voila. Now everytime you play pad X, pad Z will play too.

BOOM!

On my SP303 I used to have my MC303 trigger the samples, and each time the sample same sample was triggered it would start the sample again even if the current sample was half way through rather than how it seems to happen on the MPC where the remaining part of the sample playing is overlapped by the sample being played again - get what I mean?

On the paramater screen adjust the voice overlap: from poly to mono to get the effect you describe, or to note off (it'll only play the sound as long as you hold down the pad).

This can be changed in the same screen that you changed the filter in, the PARAMS screen (SHIFT + PROGRAM, DRUM1, PARAMS). Move your cursor to the bottom right of the screen, and roll the jog wheel. There are three different posotions:

• POLY - the sound will play through everytime you press the pad without cutting itself out
• MONO - everytime you press the pad the sound will start over from scratch
• NOTE OFF - the sound will play only for the duration you press the pad down

ha ha no problem! We're here to help.

Don't be afraid to experiment, the manual only explains the technical aspects of the mpc but it is up to you to see how you use 'em all together to make a song. As Zappa (R.I.P.) said talking about music is like dancing about architecture. You cannot destroy the mpc by messing with the different settings you only risk to F*ck a sample or loose data, but I gues that's the price we all paid for learning .

For those that have a decent mixer or record to a computer and have the 8-out, i always find it easier to do the Low End Theory like this:
Assign the sound you want to two outputs, and run those two outputs to two separate channels on your mixer/computer. Filter out all the high and mid using the channel eq on one channel only.
I find this gives you a bit more control over volume and depth when mixing down your final track.

The fastest way to assign a sample for me is when I sample it, I name it, and press enter. Then, you cam move the cursor down and press a pad that you want it to be on, and it will assign it here.
