SCSi Gear - What Works Best!?

What setup overall is or would be best to store and exchange files from the MPC to CPU and back?!!

Browsing thru this forum I have relearned what I need to store more of my MPC files, external storage devices that adapt via SCSi

What I need to know is:
Which type of device is the best? (Fastest, reliable) (CD drive, hard drives or ZIPs?)

Which actual brands of any of these Storage Gear do you use or have seen working optimally? Which do you prefer?

What setup do you use?

How reliable or fragile is an SCSi cord?
Are there other brands of SCSi cord that are better than others? Which?

What are the pros and cons when you compare the different types of devices to each other?

I was originally aiming for a CDR to DL my wavs from CPU to MPC and back but I heard that the CDR won't record info from MPC to disc, is this true?

i use an external hard drive as my mpc is not connected to a pc....i use a LaCIE ext hard drive connected via scsi......works a dream.....you can pick up LaCIE hard drives on ebay for like £30....

Couldnt be happier with my HD. Zips are good for taking with you if you leave the HD at home, but they (at least the 100s) load slow and dont hold enough data as Id like.

This has definitely been mentioned before, but do a search on Ebay for "External SCSI" and you will find a world of old computer nerds selling SCSI Cd Roms and HDs for pennies on the dollar. Got a CD Rom the other week for $5 - the shipping was more than the Cd Rom.

Its 80 pin (Scsi 3)...U need 50 pin (plus the housing)
You can get convertors (80-50pin) but im not sure its worth the risk. The MP might reject the modification

shit thats what i figured. damnit good lookin I might put it in my PC for samples. i got a scsi card comin for my PC. how would i set it up if i am usin an akai s2000 scisi to an adaptec 2096 and a 80pin hard drive?

My guess would be to Install drive (PC)...SCSI it up to the S2000...Get the alternative version of Ak.sys for the S2000 then drag and drop between your comp and your S2000. (Remember the same connections issues will apply)

To make the MPC talk with the S2000...Trigger the S2000 with the MPC

So far it seems that peeps prefer the Hard Drive and I can understand why; however I think I mainly need a way to transfer FILES

Shouldn't I just get a CDROM or ZIP?

I'm not trying to be hard headed but I already have tons of files chopped, edited etc. on my CPU; also I wouldn't mind storing on CPU plus having CD backups to all my FILES anyway

I'm guessing that there is no way to transfer INFO from the my Dell to an External HD then to the MPC without constantly switching cords.

If this is so and my main aim is a way to transfer many large files fast and in one shot, shouldn't I just get the CDROMs? Are ZIPs and CDROMs dependible? Do they work alright? Would they be alright for my purpose?

Should I just forget about CDROM and ZIP and just stick with HD?
Can an HD be a "buffer" between the PC and the MPC?

yeah tried millenium, better than mesa but that aint hard- i thought was an actual version of akai sys for the s2k....would have been weird if they had made one..i thought the s2k was kinda obsolete for akai these days....

Millennium sounds great!! This is exactly what I've been waiting for!

it says it supports s2000 and s3000xl .. I have a s3000 ..and as far as I know the xl is basically just a decked out 3000

anyone know if millennium is compatible or how I could make it compatible with the 3000?

the scsi zip disc drives do the job for me, the only draw back is that they are somewhat expensive. I have a USB zip disc drive hooked up to my computer and I back everything up on my computers HD, just incase a disc craps out.

im using the scsi cd rom. to load up custom banks i have on cd. and the card reader to chop and change between my pc and save my work.
