Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By toddsykes253 Sun Jan 31, 2010 2:26 am
I just bought a 2000xl and the floppy doesnt work. i pulled the drive out and tested it in my pc and it works fine. is it possible that there is a fuse that is blown that is preventing power to pass to the drive? i don't have an ohm meter to test the pins on the board for voltage so i can't say for sure if that is the problem. the ribbon cable is correctly installed as well as the power cable. so that is what i have narrowed it down to so far. any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks

so no power is going to the floppy? not even the light?

the floppy should be using on the red wire and the black one right next to it... they should be the 2 pins closest to the edge of the motherboard if I remember correct.

also, I suggest getting an CF/IDE adapter (compact flash ide reader) you can get internal ones for 2 or 3 bucks on ebay and they will get rid of those annoying floppies.

make sure the ribbon cable and power connector are inserted correctly on the motherboard of the MPC and not just the drive itself.

thanks guys. yeah, the drive isn't lighting up. the ribbon cable is inserted correctly as well as the power. does the cf/ide run off the same power as the floppy or does it come directly off the power supply?

IDE runs off the mini molex off the motherboard also just like the floppy... that is why sometimes if your ide device has a normal molex connector then you need an adapter. it would have been sweet for them to have put in a normal molex also O.o

The motherboard floppy red/black power wires are the same ones you splice and connect to the Atapi/ide red/black power for your zip/mcd internal drive.
