COMPRESSOR

just bought the EB16 but it has no compressor,also the sound quality is a joke..

anyone using compressors to boost up yo drums??

i had the MPC1000 and it had a compressor,kinda miss the function on the XL so i'm thinking about buying one rackunit to get that 93 boombap sound back.

right now my drums are missing that extra punch

Why'd you buy the eb16 in the first place, details of what's in it
is in the 2kxl manual.

Why didn't you research it alot first before buying it?

Use a compressor as an insert effect in your daw unless you are specifically looking for
a hardware compressor.

I don't know about the EB16......i've heard good and bad reviews on it.But i prefer to compress and EQ(and all that)in Soundforge.I don't compress my drums too often though.I still don't understand why cats do.Most kits that you download are already compressed and EQ'ed.Why not just find the right drum for the track?

They do it because they don't know and understand all what you just stated.
Most of those kits and sounds have already been compressed, lol. They heard about it and wanna emulate it
not understand why the end result will sometimes sound crappy, well, dude, you just re-compressed
sounds and it's overkill.

im just sampling all of my drums from vinyl

Turntable-----dj-mixer-----yamaha mg12/4----------MPC

with the yamaha mixer i turn the volume up and get a decent distorted sound

sample a drumloop(drumhits) at 45 rounds and full 8% pitch weakly overdrived


and you´ll get that punch (crunch,dirt) you looking for

You should take some time and experiment with the filter of the EB16. I bet it can give you the punch you want. But you'll need to take time to understand how the filter works.

i knew it didn't have comp as i used it years ago in my classic 2K,but i needed the EQ filter and reverb/echo as my mixer doesn't have fx..

my experience with kits is that 99 % of the kicks & snares sound horrible..only few are useable,the rest need to be worked on with filtering layering tuning to even make a decent track..

the MPC2KXL sounds cold compared 2 the 3K..it needs a lil extra touch

Ahh I see. that little card is capable of alot but for more pristine effects I'd do all that in a daw when tracked out.
I have an eb16 also, I bought it with the mpc first day and I couldn't imagine my 2kxl without it. Get to know the card and
it will treat you right. Not the best effects out there but it does it's in box job well. But nope, there's no compressor on it.

I have a few producer kits and i use those on the regular.Besides,if you can't get a kit with a ton of sounds you like,make your own.Take all the drums you like and "make" your own kit.Nothing wrong with layering,i do that often but like Lamp said,it's overkill with the EQ and compression.IMO

Compression can be cool if you learn to compress lightly... dont over do it. I use a ART VLA II compressor. it's rather inexpensive and its phat and warm. i swaped the tubes out for added warmth.... niiiiiicce! but like any compressor it murders the dynamics if used too heavily.

You don't even need to compress your drums. Just learn how to use the ADSR in the PARAMS screen. Here's an extra tip: change the decay mode from START to END and turn it up until you only hear the entire drum sound with no tail. Layering a couple sounds like that and you will have an easy snapping, boom bap, drum hit.

As lamp said its BETTER AND IT IS THE STANDARD TO COMPRESS YOUR DRUMS INTO YOUR DAW, AS AN ENGINEER IT IS highly recommended to do that in the daw due to that fact in case changes need to be made they can be done with the recorded material on the system. and this does just apply to compression this goes for ALL effects. The EB16 card does suck however play with it , get a good compresser as well but don;t just stop there EQ play a big deal in PUNCH as well as gear used, quality of the recording, quality of the sample,cables used etc... DO YOU RESEARCH.

but because of the horrible self-centered ego driven responses.

The dude asked how to compress his stuff using his MPC on a forum named "MPC-Forums". It's a perfectly reasonable question to ask.

I too am now looking for ways to incorporate compression into my MPC 2000xl workflow and DO NOT want to use a DAW or computer.

So, I landed here and all i got were unhelpful bashing rather than an answer to this problem.

Either delete this thread or actually offer some solutions.
