No SCSI installed

Peace everyone,

I know previous posts have been created around a similar problem, however, the forum search isn't working right now so I thought I'd post up my question and see if anyone has experienced this issue, and if so, how did you go about resolving it?

I'm an MPC60 user and recently got a 2000XL. I'm now trying to get my external Zip100 drive hooked up and working. I formatted the zip disk on a Windows XP PC using the FAT formatting option, connected the SCSI, and the MPC can't seem to find the drive.

When I goto the "save/load" screen and select SCSI-5 (which is the ID for my drive) it tells me there is "no SCSI installed." FYI, the zip drive is booted up and the disk inserted prior to turning my MPC on.

I have experienced zip drive problems with other samplers, however, they have usually been due to disk errors. In those instances, you can hear the sampler engaging the zip drive and attempting to read the disk. However, in this case, the MPC does not appear to be making contact with the zip drive AT ALL.

I think you need to format the disc in the mpc first, but I'm not sure..sorry I couldn't be more help

Well, it looks like you're confirming my suspicions...

It is not the original Zip 100 that had the termination switch on the back, but it is the newer self-terminating variety. It also has the AutoDetect port on it which I believe is what you're referring to by "comb parallel/SCSI drive."

There's only two SCSI IDs to choose from on this joint, and that's why I had it set to 5, knowing that ID 6 is the MPC. I tried two different cables, one of which I just purchased brand new. SCSIs have never been the most reliable cables, but I've never had a problem with one straight out of the packaging.

I'm leaning more towards the drive itself being the problem, which seems inline with what you're saying. I'm gonna have to cop the older style Zip 100 tomorrow and see if it solves my problem.
