I'd have to dig out the parts to get the exact numbers.....
There were two in that line, both with different lenght shafts... I think 14/20mm
I think the original was a 10 or something, I can't seem to find that,
But I think it was the 14 that fit with the 'knob' just fine
Pretty much anything in those lines is gonna work tho
I've ordered a few variations from Mouser, and the difference is the length of the peg.
They are hollow and I just cut them down to length. Careful not to tweak the crap out of it and you'll be fine
Have replaced more than 20 of them. All peachy
Bumping an old post again. I've been looking for the compatible rotary encoder for MPC-2000XL as well. I don't feel like ordering from the MPC specialist again (I think it is a bit expensive, and it seems that I'm going to have to keep replace it every year), So I checked Mouser and other vender.
I did replace the encoder on my XL less than year ago, and the encoder feels a lot loose already. I think the reason why it wear out so fast is that the job dial is too big (in diameter) for the encoder, therefore it get too much pressure when it is used.
Anyway, SMC (where is he now?) is right on, ALPS ES12 rotary encoder can be used:
http://www.alps.com/WebObjects/catalog. ... _list.htmlI think EC12E24204A2 is the one that fit MPC-2000XL the most, but I think the shaft (actuator) is longer than the original Akai parts. (I don't know for sure, it may fit well, without cutting the shaft.) Electronically, they are totally compatible. It was the shortest one I could find.
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ALP ... 9P1g%3d%3dLIke SMC said, I cannot find the rotary encoder with short shaft (I think it should be 10mm in height, not shaft length)
It does not have to be ALPS parts. Bourn, for instance, also make rotary encoder, but I haven't find the right one with short shaft.
I've just checked Mouser, they do not have the short one. If you don't mind cutting the shaft (actuator), EC12E24204A2 should work fine.
(UPDATE: actually, as it turned out that EC12E24204A2 is 2mm SHORTER than the original, so you know. I think I'll order from Mouser.)
