MPC 2000/8out/Mixer Audio Interface Question

So I am planning on purchasing the 8-outs and installing it into my mpc. I was wondering if the 8 outs would require that my mixer/audio interface have 8 mono inputs in order to be able to apply effects to all 8 channels separately. If so, do any of you guys have a good reccomendations for Mixers than have usb audio interfaces built in? I have been looking at Yamahas, Behringers, and Tascams. I do not think I have the money to do all this stuff yet, but any input would be helpful.

8 outputs are useless without 8 inputs. As far as audio interface / mixer recomendations, it helps to know a little bit about what you are trying to achieve. IE, do you already have a lot of outboard gear? Are you just using so you can get signal into the computer and mix and apply fx from there? Are you not using a computer at all? It all really depends.

Yeah I was just curious because 12 channel mixers are obviously cheaper than 16 channel, but 12 channel usually have 4 mono and 8 stereo, and I figured going from mono to stereo would not be the best. Currently I have the Behringer Xenyx 502 mixer with UCA 200 audio interface, so I can basically just record right into my computer without adding fx or editing. I do all sequencing live using the track mute screen, so I cannot really edit and change individual tracks. I would like a mixer that has fx in it, but I would also like to be able to record all my tracks at once into my recording software. I'm not really sure if it is better to have a mixer with fx, or if I should add things like reverb with the computer program instead.

I dont think you can use the effects out the individual 8 outs.

There are many different ways to use the 8 outs with a mixer or an audio interface.

You really need to work out why you want the mixer/audio interface, and what you are doing with them.

If it is to track individual channels into a DAW, do you really need a mixer, or do you just need a multichannel audio interface for your DAW.

If you do want a mixer, and want to record multiple channels into your DAW from the mixer as well, you need to make sure the mixer has individual outputs for each track into the DAW, through whatever mixer-DAW interface it is using (USB/Firewire/etc.), as there might not be any point to going into a mixer then just recording stereo from the mixer to the DAW (depending on your particular workflow).

If you want to use the mixer for effects, does it have decent internal effects, and enough decent internal effects processors/sends/returns for what you are doing?

If you want to use a mixer to for external effects unit, does the mixer have enough effects sends, and returns/return channels, for the number of effects units you want to use.

A mixer might only really be useful in a live performance, or live to recording, situation, but it really depends on what you want it for, as there are so many different ways to use them.

BY FAR!!!!!! The best interface going right now is the Tascam US1800.. I can assure you.... You will not need anything else. Unless, you're just a firewire junky.

Got my 8 output expansion board through the other day, typically the day i go on holiday.

Luckily holiday involved live hiphop and crate digging - score!

Now i have managed to upgrade and it is working like a treat

the 8-outs is the best upgrade you can do to a 2k/xl.
