How do you guys back up your files?

wdup, how and where do you all back up your mpc files and tracks?

i've had a bit of a problem..

i have my 2kxl plugged into an external 250mb zipdrive via scsi, and my macbookpro plugged in with a usb 250 zip drive. im sort of ocd about backing up **** up so ive been trying to back up my mpc zip disc files on to folders on my laptop. however, after i eject the zip disc that was in the mpc with all my .pgm, sequences,etc and put it into the usb zip drive for my macbook, all the files get erased? i know you can transfer from a computer to mpc via zip, but is it impossible the other way around? i just don't want all my work on some zips, can't trust that!

If you use the Translator program, you can create a Virtual Drive on your computer, which is a section on your hard drive that is in MPC2000XL format, and you can drag and drop the files on your zip disk or compact flash card from the media to the Virtual Drive. This is a great and easy way to backup your files. Alternately, you could get MPC Editor - I believe that program also offers a backup option. But the beauty of Translator and the Virtual Drive is that you'll be able to easily see all the archived files and drag-and-drop them back and forth from the removable media to your hard drive.

As for what happened to your files, I'm not a Mac guy and so I cannot offer an opinion as to why they disappeared.

so normally, if you take the zip out of the mpc with all your files, then drag them onto a folder on your desktop via usb zip drive, you should be able to back them up like that correct?
and then you can paste the files on the computer to an empty zip, then load it on to the mpc?

zip, then to another zip, then onto floppies once i have purged everything i can. i have hundreds of them, but i trust them and it means that you have to be very organised, no room for stuff you don't need on those babies!

before i switched to the 2500, I would just dump everything in PT and then just burn all sessions to a DVD. Can't go wrong that way!
