Buying an MPC 2000 with a broken display...

Hello,

if someone offered you an MPC 2000 with a partially broken display (3 pixel lines are broken), would you still buy it? Let's assume the pixel lines don't affect you too much, because you can still read anything.

The question for me is: Is an already degraded display more likely to get further broke, so that after a few weeks or months, more and more pixel lines start to disappear? Or is the "speed of degradation" generally not related to the current state?

How long?... well it depends on how much use it gets.

my screen went from completely white with only 3 dots to 100% fully working again..

that because liquid was spilled on it

but i would never buy any mpc with the lines,not even only 1,that's why i bought the blue edition with the newer screen.

There is a store to buy a replacement if broken screen?

^^no. there is no manufactur of this specific display anymore. you only can buy used ones from time to time.

Well, someone offered me an MPC 2000 with three broken lines, but it also has 8 outputs, FX board, 32 MB, ZIP drive (external), some ZIP disks and some audio cables. I would prefer a 2000 XL without a broken display... but the offer is 400 EUR. And I think that's a great deal, along with all the extras. Maybe I can find a replacement display one day, if it really gets worse, or I could also try to find a cheap 2000 XL without the extras, upgrade it with all the stuff and then sell the 2000.

What do you think? The display issue sure bugs me a bit, but on the other hand, all the extras seem to be worth the purchase.

i would sell the 2000 and ZIP without the extras for about 250 and get the XL with cardreader.

400 Euro is not a good deal IMO. If the display is unreadable in a year (I dont know how long it takes) you'll have to search for a display and if you find it I bet the seller dont sell it under 250 Euro. Thats 650 Euro for a working MPC, a lot of frustrating time and searching till then = not a good deal.

Dont let the "extras" fool you.

although I recommend a MO Drive 128 or 230 cause they are more stable

damn noone bid on this auction. Although my infos are correct, do a research by yourself. I know many RAM sellers talk shit about compatiblity of MPC and RAM so they can sell their shit for more money.

You can also search for the s2000 with a 8out board, buy it for 100 Euro, take out the 8 out board and sell the s2000 again (if you are lucky you will sell it for the same or even more )

So lets say the "extras" take 100 Euro. Are you really want to buy a machine with a broken display that is unavailable for 300 Euro. Good deal??

I paid 300 Euro for my MPC2000 (classic) including a zip drive, 5 zip disks, 32MB memory and the 8 out board and everything (except the zipdrive cause it died after a week) in a very good condition. Got it in 2008 and still no lines in the display.

Hmm did you use eBay to buy that? I have already followed some offerings in the past, an MPC2000 without extras was sold for 350, and full-(or half)-expanded ones often reach over 500 EUR...

Do you also know how much the FX board usually costs? Because it's also included in my deal. I only found some fixed-price offerings from the USA for 217 EUR, and an auction where the start price is already 130 EUR.

Another question, if I resold the MPC on eBay without extras but with the broken display (let's assume it would be still in the same state), do you think it could reach 250 EUR?

The reason why the offering is still somehow tempting to me is that I'd have everything immediately, without having to wait ages for each component to find (and win) a good auction... so if I'd know that the MPC could safely be resold, even maybe with another broken display line, I'd be quite happy, also because I might replace it with an XL someday...

I've never used one on an MPC. Only on older PC's.

not all s2000 output boards work on mpc.sold one yearts ago to a dude and it didnt fit aparently.....its kinda good deal there tho,out put board and fx are worth between 100 and 150 each.so you getting a cheap mpc.koool

Keep in mind while shopping, if you live in Europe, take advantage of the weaker US dollar and buy from someone in the US. The shipping costs may be a little higher, but the savings in currency alone will pay for itself...

I paid 75 EURO on the EB16.
Talkin bout the 8Outs. AFAIK there are two versions one with RCA S/PDIF and one with TRS S/PDIF. Both fit technically but you'll have to do some work by fixing it in the machine cause you might need a metal plate for it. There are workarounds (I bet its described here on MPC forums)

And yes, it depends on where you are from. There are many MPCs and stuff here on ebay germany.
