it will probably make my life easier.... right?

yeah.... i am a noobie with a new 2000xl and a mac g4 and digi001.
it seems like the 1000 can do everything the 2000 can except transfer files seemlessly back and forth.

so if anyone wants to make a good case for me to keep my 2000xl... please do so!
the whole usb connectivity thing has me thrilled.... it seems like such great idea!

thanks!

Did you know the pads are smaller on the mpc1000?
Did you know there is no scsi on the mpc1000 (maybe not bad if you dont have a scsi zip)?
Did you know the programs you have made on the mpc2000 won't fully translate (different sound format)?
Did you know thta many of the most famous producers on the mpc have a single set of core drum sounds they work off of that can fit on a floppy (so transfering to the computer and back isnt an issue)?
Did you know that the mpc1000 looks like a fisher-price "my first mpc" toy?

Do what you will, man, but if you have the xl, I dont know why you would want to give it up just so you can drag and drop files from your computer.
Sounds to me like you just have gear lust and want to buy a new toy.

I would understand if you wanted to trade the xl for a 4000, or a 3000, or even a 60II, but the 1000? Hmm...

If it sounds like a good idea to you, though, go for it. Free your xl for someone who will love it and not drop it for whatever new mpc comes along  .

Oh yeah, there is a version on the MPC program creator for the mac. Do a search (there might be a link in the newbie guide).

File transfer is as simple as saving off your omputer (on a zip) and then transfering the disk to the mpc. All in all, if you use a program editor (you can do this just as fast as you could with the mpc1000).

It sounds to me what you really want is the 4000 if you want better connection with the computer as the 4000 uses aksys.

~Im wit Smoove03 I got the 1k but Ima get the blue XL the XL will fit me more! 1st u have to find a mpc that fits u they have many mpc's to fit different producers! If u got a internal zip on yur XL then get a zip drive for yur pc and u can do file transfers like that or if u have a internal floppy on yur XL Im pretty sure yur pc has a floppy as well so u can also do it like that or better yet use yur scsi! 8) Keep what u got playa and learn it.

So can I load a sample cd full of wav's into my computer. Then save some of the drum sounds to a floppy and load that floppy into my mpc.

I wouldn't trade either. You can't slice on the 1000. You have mute groups instead of mute assignments (very baaaad). Smaller pads. Only four additional outs. Non-upgradable (minus the ram). No tilt screen (horrible green color and contrast issues).

The only advantages I found on the 1000 were the usb connection, the ability to sample whilst playing yo' beatzesz, and that's about it. Oh, yeah. There are a few extra cheapo filters and effects with very little editing capabilities.

The 1000 doesn't suck, but unless you can't hang with the 2000xl.....than there is no point to downgrading.

If the features on the 1000 interest you enough, then you should maybe look into the 4000. Its far more complex than the two. But again, mute groups over mute assignments. That killed me. I had the 4000 and the 1000 before I realized I was wasting my time and just needed to get my 2000xl synced with my PowerMac G5 :)

it seems as if though i f'd up. but i guess i didn't judging from the feedback. i have mac g4 with no floppy drive so the floppy drive on my mpc is pretty much useless right? so i'm assuming my best option given my current setup is to get a zip drive.... i currently have a
mac g4
digi 001
mpc 2000xl (basic memory, floppy, no expansion board etc... basic!)

will getting a zip drive be the answer to my prayers?

you guys are all great. thanks for the advice.

ps... is it recomended to get 100mb zip or 250?

yea u can do it this way. this was the way i started. but floppies dont hold much of anything. and samples are sometimes big files. floppies wont be too convenient, but yea u can do it this way.

ur better off goin wit a zip drive. one of the fellas here hooked me up wit a link to ebay for a usb zip drive (for my computer) and i won the joint for $26. the mpc would use an scsi zip drive.

my mpc2000 has no upgrades and i still have no complaints. as far as 100mb, thats what i have. i think its whateva you wanna do wit that. if you feel you need more space get the 250.

i would love to get a 250...hope this helps 8)

that's great. i guess i'll go ahead and try and get 250mb zip drive.
once i acquire the drive... what's the best way to hook it up to my mac and mpc. can it be scsi out to usb on the mac? or am i gonna have to hook it scsi on the mac? i guess i'm gonna have to get a special scsi card for the back of the g4? sound right?

man, im gonna stick with the xl,
Im not really into down grading. i will never step down the the next level. i am standing on the plateau of xl'ence.
Oh yeah go with the internal 250mb ZIP its a must have, if your not running any ext. SCSI devices. You pc must be a FAT file system for it to read the MPC formated zips though. Just as easy to save your pgm's to zip then eject and wack it into the mpc. Although im not sure on how the mpc1000 reacts. i think it goes into some sort of standby mode when accepting usb files as it is only a slave. the files still have to loaded into pgms and assign to pads if i remember correrctly.

i actually use to do all my beats on floppy disk. like descartes said. Id have all my drums on one disk, then just pick the drums, then sample my samples, then trim, trim, trim, until i got it to fit to one disk. If i couldnt fit it all, i would save my drum pcg to the drum disk, and samples on another and label them.

once i got the zip, i got lazy, and been happy ever since. The only reason usb should look better is if you heavily realy on software samplers, and sample of mp3s, but i think thats a poor excuse.

good, cause i think mp3 sampling is **** lame. BTW. then there is no need to involve a computer if all yousample is vinyl. looks then like you just need more space! so zip is perfect.

Call up akai. their number is on www.akaipro.com, Ask for "the cables neccesary to install a zip drive" dont buy the "zip kit" just get the cables, zip kit is way overpriced. Then look online and search for "250mb internal zip drive" find one for around $$$30-60(make sure the site is secure and call for availablity). Buy the zip, buy the cables for around $15. and your set. comes with instructions too.
