Triggering sounds on pads (newbe user)

Problem:

When striking a pad; the entire (4 second) sample plays when No pressure is applied to the pad.

Question: Can I have the pad in "a mode' whereas the sample will only Playback for the duration I have my fingers on the pad?

In other words: I only want sound when pressure is applied to the pad. If I hold down for one second I get one second of a 4 second sample.

My Akai S20 does this great pg26
