types of external zip drives

yo yo guys. this might be a noob question. i had an external zip for the majority of owning my akai. it broke on me a while ago and now im happily using 250mb internal zip (thank you scsiforsamplers!). so, i recently came up on a couple parallel zip drives. the guy was gonna throw them away, but just gave them to me instead. these two drives dont have the ID-5/ID-6 option on the back like my old one had. i tried having my akai recognize them with no luck. just got 'scsi not ready.' am i doing something wrong or can these drives not work at all with a mpc. i have mpc2kxl.

Parallel drive connects to the old parallel port (printer port) on a computer only.

I think the major difference is the purpose, which those are depeloped.
Parallel port was mainly for printers and that time (early 70's) printers were quite slow.
SCSI was meant for data transfer for mass storages etc. Speed for that purpose is ALWAYS slow.
It was then and it is now.
(I mean that even you have worlds fastest data transfer method in use, someone is still complaining that it is too slow )
