SCSI Storage overkill *POLL*

Been cleaning out schit in my room I don't use but want to keep either the SCSI Zip, Jaz or 9GB external harddrive.
Since adding a Microtech SCSI card reader with an 8GB memory card and an internal 9GB laptop HD 3 1/2 years ago, I have no use for these.
What ya'll think???

I say get rid of the zip drive, it's prone to fail, guaranteed, they all do sooner or later. Sell it to somebody that's just getting into this kind of thing and doesn't want to spend a fortune on card readers and drives.

Equipped with a Cardreader and an internal 9GB HD you don't need any of the other drives. But....I dont like HD because of the noise. I would get rid of the HD and keep the JAZ instead or buy a MO drive (just for the day the cardreader dont wanna work anymore)

Believe me... I've had my troubles with the click-of-death on internal Zip drives in the past. The only reason I would consider keeping the Zip drive is for when people come over with Zip disks so I can still load them up in my MPC.

get rid of them all, you don't need all those cables uglying up your studio.

just back up your cf cards to the computer and your set

5 more external CF readers? haha...

how easy is it to get jaz disks? I have never seen those used on computers before.

yeah... I see more Zip disks pop up on eBay than Jaz disks.
I've got like 30+ unused Zip Disks but only the 1 Jaz disk that came with the drive and that has computer programs still on it I guess as a back up.

those are what? 1 to 3 gigs?

apparently zip disks go up to 750 but I have never seen anyone even use those. I used 250s and 100s only. Hell I even used 20MB floppy disks back in the 90s. I couldn't believe 20 megs was possible when I saw that for the first time... haha except for CDs but back then burners were over a grand. I remember when owning a CD burner meant you could make a good stack of cash on the side. Remember 5 bucks for a mix cd?

This is the only reason you would want to even consider keeping the Zip drive. Those who save their work on Zip disks could bring an external drive along with them.

I have a box of drives in the studio that I kept for this exact reason, however everyone has since caught up with the times and use CF cards now, the box sits in the closet taking up space.

With the storage formats that are currently in your workflow, there really is no need to keep any of the extra drives.

Good call.

A Juno 106 is much more fun to have than a box of drives....
