Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Ok I have an mpc2000(nonXL) rocking the 1.72 os for the last few years. It has always been rock solid, never had any problem or crash.

Anyways I haven't used the mpc in awhile (probably a year) and I was playing around with it again last night and it start doing some crazyness.

Basically I load a sound or a pgm file (from floppy) and everything is fine. As soon as I am done loading I always remove the floppy.
After awhile (10 minutes to an hour) of playing around on the pads or playing back sequences I have made it is like the sound just glitches out.

All of the data is still there.
The sequence still plays, the sounds are all still on the right pads and play when you hit them, but their sound is like overdriven and has this rhythymic glitchy static in with it.
You can barely still make out the sounds, but when it happens it affects every sound in the pgm.

The data on the floppy isn't getting corrupted (as I always remove the disks unless I am loading/saving) but when I turn the mpc off and then back on sometimes for awhile after it glitches out when I load sounds from any floppy as soon as I hit play on the load window the sound will have the same glitch (any sound from any disk).

If I leave the mpc turned off for a bit and then load sounds they start out fine again, until after awhile everything that is loaded into it glitches out.

It seems like it must be something with the memory (I upgraded to 32megs years ago) as once you are loaded up everything is running from the RAM.

Has anyone else out there run into anything like this?

Yes, I know about the click of death, but that affects zips, I am just using the internal floppy drive and don't even have my zip drive hooked up right now.

I opened it up last night to try removing the memory upgrade but couldn't remember which board in there you unscrew get at the RAM slot (on the nonXL) so I have to wait on that til tonight (once I look it up on the net).

ps. I don't have the effects board, the mpc is stock other than the memory upgrade so it has to be probably the RAM. I think.

anyone ... anyone.

if you need it so you can take your jawn apart. I hope you can figure out what the heck is going on with it. good luck man.

sounds like bad memory. Get new simm chips

that is what I thought, I am testing something out to be sure though.

I racked my brain trying to figure out what it could be and realized that when we reconfigured my studio recently for some friends to be able to come over and jam we have a big PA speaker right underneath the table the mpc is sitting on. they problem only popped up last night when I had other sounds (synth, guitar, etc) running through the PA so I realized it could be some sort of weird electromagnetical interference. I am still not sure though, because the sounds load up fine (so the disk isn't getting corrupted) but maybe there could be some weird EMF either messing with the memory (which I doubt) or some on the electronics in the mpc.

I hurried home at lunch to move the speaker across the room and loaded up some sounds and a beat and left it running for like 30 minutes while I was there. When I left the sounds were not glitched out yet, so I left the mpc on but with playback stopped. When I get home after work I am going to see if the sounds in memory are glitched out or not.

Hopefully it was just some weird EMF thing if not I will just pull the simms I put in and see what happens running off of just the stock 2megs that the mpc has onboard.

Somehow maybe the meomory was exposed to static, did you try getting one of those cans of compressed air and cleaning the outputs? do you hear it in the main outs/8 outs/headphones all at the same time? If so it's probably an internal problem, probably with the memory. If you only hear it in certain outputs it might be dirty contacts...
