note number issue 2000xl

...so everytime i start up my mpc the note numbers on the pads of the default program
are in wrong order!!!!

usualy pad A01 is note number 35 A02=36 A03=37 and so on
when i start up pad A01 is note number 37 A02=42 A03=53...... the numbers all twisted up till pad C01
from that point the pads continue in proper order

anyone knows whats up with that or had / have the same problem???

Do a search for "auto chromatic assign". That should help.

that´s not what i mean ...

start up your mpc 2000xl blank without loading anything up
go to programm (shift+6) select DRUM1 (F1)

press pad A01 and look on the note number (second row on the screen Pad:A01=Note:xx)
correct me if im wrong but normally pad A01 should be note number 35!!

and when i chromatic assign a sound the mpc creates a new program
same when i create "zones" of a sound and choose to make a new program

yes these "new programs" have the right order of Note numbers pad:A01=note:35 up to pad:D16=note:98!!!!!!!!

i dont get why the "default program" WHEN I START UP!!! got all the notes mixed up.......

It's a legacy of General Midi so your drum kit all ends up on the same bank.

Just assign the note numbers to the pads how you want them, save the configuration as a file I forget what that is on the XL.( Is it a PAR file, somebody?) Then load that file everytime you turn the machine on and your pads will always be in order.
If someone can come on here and tell you how to save the parameters, you will be good to go.



Incidently, my MPC3000 has the pads set up chromatically, permanently. I forget how I did that but, I don't think the same works with the XL.

What you can do is to create a program with "your" note assignment and params, then delete all other programs & sounds and save an APS (name it "default" for example) in the root folder of your floppy/zip/cf.
Then go Shift+3 LOAD, press F4 Setup, select the drive and select "APS" for auto loading file type.

This APS will load everytime you switch on the unit with floppy/zip/cf inserted and you will only need to assign sounds to your pads.

i just create one zone of a sound so i get a program wit correct notes
and delete the "fake zone sound" afterwards every time i start up creating a program
(unless i want to "zone" a sound anyway)


its just annoying me because sometimes i forget about it

but the auto load aps from floppy sounds good i´ll make it that way from now on
