Please help! Swap from mpc 1000 to 2000 XL

Hi everyone

I have my new Mpc 2000XL without the FX board and the 8 outs. I checked the prices at mpcstuff.com and cost lot of cash.
What do you guys recomend me to buy it or not.
I was using the fx quite alot on the akai mpc 1000...
Another otion would be to buy a akai s3200xl to take away the fx board or the akai S200s *studio edition* to take the fx board and the 8 outs???, no idea about the prices yet...
Other than that i am very happy with my new Machine

I would vote get nothing for now. I work without the FX board, and it really makes you get good at making the sample do what you want without throwing the same frilly fx that everyone else has on it. You'll also learn to emulate certain FX, like echo with 16 levels controlling velocity and phase by playing two identical samples at almost the exact same time. Max out your potential before increasing it through more stuff, you learn better that way.

If that's not your bag or you already know the xl pretty well, then I would start cruising ebay. Don't buy the 8 outs or fx board from MPCstuff. They are a great company, but you can find both of those option boards for cheaper on ebay. I'm pretty sure it will be a lot cheaper to buy the option boards than to buy a new s-series sampler. I don't know a whole lot about the newer s-series products (I stopped paying attention to them after the s2000). But I've heard a lot of people say that triggering samples from rack samplers via the MPC slows workflow.

Again I don't know about the specific samplers you are referring to, but if you need FX and extra outs, rather than overcomplicating your setup, I would go with the option board upgrades for the MPC rather than a whole new module (unless it's an s950... oh man... 12 bit drums). Hope that helps!

is really a big change coming from the 1000.. You right i better stay like this for now,and learn the 2000 xl.

IMHO I'd save the money and buy for your 2000XL:
A) a card reader if you still have a floppy or Zip drive.
B) max out the memory to 32MB if you already haven't.
C) a comfortable pair of MIDI headphones.

I have a internal compact flash reader on my akai mpc 2000xl and the memory upgrede too..

i like ur snares man!! im really new into this mpc thig.
i have the 2000xl
and im trying to learn how to save my pads and sequenses,so i can just load it up
latar....anyone? please help.

Step 1:

Load a zip or floppy disk into your MPC

Step 2:

Go shift --> disk (#3)

Step 3:

With the jog wheel, select save (load is the default), select save a program or save all programs, then press "do it." MAKE SURE TO HAVE "SAVE WITH SOUNDS?" SET TO "YES!!!"

Step 4:

Using the jog wheel again, select save a sequence or save all sequences and songs, then press "do it."

It is now safe to turn off your MPC.

To load those sounds, programs, and sequences back on to the MPC, go shift --> disk. The load option should already be highlighted. If you saved a single program, select .pgm with the jog wheel to load. If you saved all programs, select .aps with jog wheel. Load the one you saved. You should now have all sounds assigned to the same pads as you did before you turned your unit off. If you need to load your sequence(s), select load .seq or load .all, depending on if you saved one sequence or all sequences and songs. Hope this helps!

The fx board is very usefull as it has the EQ filter...your drums can sound so much better with it..the echo and reverb are not really usefull imo.

I got the eb16 for cheap on ebay..i would advise to get it,without it i woudn´t even bother making beats on the XL..

cosign on those midi headphones! I was never able to get that bass end banging properly with my old regular headphones. Before I got those I didn't know what the hype was about when it came to pro music gear...

Just download the manual.
It has everything and within 2-3 hours you will be banging your first beats.

Also you could buy the Beatmaking On The MPC 2000XL



The manual is all you need for first.
Then if you have any questions
search the forum for answers.
If you dont find make a new thread under the propper section.

Try not to go off-topic in other topics.

i got a mpc 2kXL. IMO id say first learn the console. get into a groove with your machine. your work flow was probably alot different compared to the 1000. ive only worked on a 1000 once, but from i remember it was alot different than the 2000xl. if you are tracking into your computer - logic, pro tools, etc... then id say get the 8 outs. seriously helped me out a bunch. time saver to the max! ive heard mixed stuff about FX. i bet its great to have right in your machine, but most of the time it just cost too much for what you're getting. especially in terms of effects whats out these days. at the time the 2kXL came out the FX chip was awesome, but now id say if you track stuff onto a DAW just use the FX there. this is all opinion though.
