Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Dos Thu May 27, 2004 10:44 pm
I'm trying to get my 2000xl 100MB zip disks to open in a PC using an external parallel SCSI drive, alas to no avail. The PC is formatted to FAT32 and the drive works fine. (opens Roland SP808 disks fine)
I normally use a Mac so maybe I'm missing something here?
Anybody know whats up?

I wanna start off by stating that there is no such thing as a "parallel SCSI drive." A drive is either one or the other. Although the cables are similar, they are very different from each other in terms of the way they both work. And basically they are not friendly systems. And sometimes using the inappropriate device can be deadly to internal parts on the computer or sampler.

When you use it on your PC, you may be using a parallel port and cable. There is no such thing on a Mac. The Mac only uses SCSI. That may be what's happening to you. You need a SCSI drive to use it on your MPC.

Peace and good luck.

I use my paralell Zip with MPC 60 zips as well as S6000 & Emax Zips. All the machines have scsi zips, and they work fine. Win 98 SE if that matters.

Thanks for the replies,

My bad, there was suppose to be a ' - ' between parallel and SCSI cause I wasn't sure what drive it was. It's my friend's drive and he has my disk, I was hoping he could email me a midi file from it. I posted the question before confirming, my appologies.
Anyway it's a parallel drive, SCSI is on my Mac, still doesn't work though, should it?
Elmacaco, it's on XP, this may be the problem?

did you format the zip using the MPC or the PC?
