Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

AFAIK a CF card reader built into an MPC2000XL can only read CF cards with a volume of up to 1 GB.

As I only have a 4 GB Sandisk CF Card, I am wondering if the MPC will be able to read this card if I partition it into four partitions of 1 Gb each. Does anynody have any experience with something like that?

Thanks.

Depends on the type of card reader you have (IDE or SCSI) and the OS you have. As I recall, version 1.20 will only see a single 1GB partition regardless of how it is partitioned. A SCSI reader will let you have mutiple partitions, because you can use earlier revisions of the OS.

thanks for the info. I have bought an internal IDE CF Reader and I am currently using OS 1.20.
So if I get you right, partitioning won't work in my case - good to know.

Well, if the MPC will at least read my 4 GB CF Card I'll be fine -even if I can only use 1 GB of it.

I'd like to know too, if larger than 1 gb cards are ok and don't process any errors in reading/writing, because it's hard to find nowadays 1 gb CF card in my country, or at least it's more expensive than new smallest (4gb) cards.

And has anyone tried MicroDrives? Do they work?

had a question if someone could help me with this issue. I am going to be connecting a external CF drive to my MPC2000xl which holds 32gbs. Now my questions is in order for me to do this i would have to switch to 1.14 OS. The question i have is What is the difference between 1.14 and 1.20? I know that 1.20 can only load CF cards up to 1GB and 1.14 can hold up to 16GBs. But is there any differnce in anotther features. And if anyone wants to increase there production time i would advice getting one of these external or internal storage devices. You can get them at www.scsiforsamplers.com. Go and check it out.

if I am not mistaken this CF drive is an atapi reader that works on version 1.14. that is why it can do up to 16 gig cards.

the thing is version 1.20 has every exact feature of 1.14 when it comes to music... the only difference is that they removed some of the partitioning related parts of the OS to make room for adding the ability to use CF drives on the IDE connection that previously were not able to be used by version 1.14.
