two questions from an XL noob

I'm using a 2000XL OS ver 1.14

Question 1:

On page 58 of the manual, it says under the sections "The OVERDUB key" and "The REC key" that you can enter record or overdub mode "from the stop or playback modes". But it only explains how to do that when stopped. If I'm playing back, and I hit OVERDUB, it doesn't just punch in. Is it possible to do that?

EDIT. Solved this one. You have to hold REC or OVERDUB and hit play again. The manual does explain this, but actually doing it is a little counter intuitive.

Q 2:

I'm using my MPC to sequence a Roland Jupiter-6 via MIDI. Every time I change sequences using "next sequence", or start using "PLAY START" the mpc sends the Jupiter-6 a message (I haven't yet analysed exactly what) that puts the jp-6 in a mode where it doesn't make any sound (the sine and ramp wave buttons for osc-2 are lit) and I have to flip it on and off to get it to play. Any idea what's happening there?

EDIT. Solved, sort of. The MPC is transmitting program change messages for some reason. I'm able to filter them out on the JP-6 end of things (by turning off the PATCH PRESET switch). Does anyone know why the mpc is doing this and how to disable it? Thank you again

You are a legend! I never thought this was possible! This is potentially a game changer for those doing live gigs while sequencing

If by legend you mean familiar with a basic function on the XL, then yes, you are right.
