Floppy Drive problem? Floppy problem? Or file problem?

Hi all, recently bought a 2000xl and I'm still with the sloppys. I tried to install a cf reader but it didn't work (I have the 1.2 OS), I guess it was because the ide cf adapter was a 39 pin one and not a 40 pin one, so I sent an e-mail to adonics asking if they ship to Portugal (no answer yet).

Sooo, I'm saving all to floppys, but I have a problem (or two, or three, don't know). Yesterday I spent like an hour making a selection of drum hits, saving them on FAT formated floppys and making sure that in the files properties' it said (16 bit PCM). Then I tried to load some of those floppys on the MP and in some of them it appeared the strangest characters on the files' name and I couldnt load them, it gave a "unknow file type" message. With other floppys it just said "disk read error" and on the rest of them "not pcm format"! WTF? I just don't know where the problem is...damn floppys...!

(It's also hard to get a zip drive, they're rare here in Portugal and the zip floppys cost as hell!)

Could the floppy drive be messed up? The week before it read and wrote without a problem...the floppy disk I'm using right now are not the same though...With the "disk read error" ones I believe that the floppys could be broke, but what's up with the "not a pcm format"? I'm sure that in the file info it says 16 bit pcm..

The floppy drive in the MPC is not any special sort. It's standard, like in the computers.

Some days ago, I was also upgrading my 2000xl to CF and I am almost sure that my cf adapter was 39 pin... But I am not sure...

I had similar problems as you and I created a topic there (should be easy to find). It might be helpfull for you

About ZIP drives... It seems they are not popular if you look on the internet, cause there are not many people who uses them But try to ask some friends, I tried and I get even 4 ZIP drives for free

I guess I need to try every possible combination...floppy drive, floppy disks and wav converter...

I've read all the topics related to cf adapters (I think), lol...But that's the only explanation I get, I tried a 39pin adapter, got the 40 pin IDE cable, plugged everything right (with the red part of the IDE cable facing the rear of the mp, adapter on Master mode,), but when I turned on the MP it said "no floppy device"...

I'm thinking of getting this one to see if it works...
