Help...Gettting a MPC 2000xl with internal zip drive....

Hello I'm getting a MPC 2000xl with an internal zip drive. I don't know what zip drive it comes with. Is it a 100, 250, 750? What external zip drive should I get to accompany it to transfer data to and from my computer? Thanks.........

It comes with a 1.44 megabite Floppy drive I just use the reg 100 mb
zip disk but you can add the 32meg SIMM memory chip to your
2000xl.

You would have to allow one of the more experienced users here

They do have external zip drives via USB so I don't think you need a 50 pin SCSI connector. But your reply brings up a good question. I'm not very familiar with zip drives myself. In fact I haven't even considered the device until I decided to get an MPC. So it looks like the MPC with the internal zip is 100 MB. So do I need to also get a 100MB external zip drive? Or can I get a 250 MB Zip drive or a 750 MB zip drive? I hear that the zip drive in the MPC can also be upgraded to 750mb so if that were the case would I have to also buy another 750 MB zip drive to hook up to my computer....?

So it is possible to upgrade the internal zip drive in the MPC to 750MB? And if that's the case I would need to get another 750 MB zip drive for my computer. But is the upgrade necessary or should I be able to make do with just 100mb? Thanks.....

You can put a Zip 750 in it but you can't save to Zip 100 disks... it will only read them.
It will read and write to the Zip 250 disks though.

If you got the money, I'd go for the 750 for the MPC and your PC.
In saying that, the Zip 250 I got in my MPC holds a sh*t load of samples on disk.

I have 18mb of RAM and a 100mb ZIP drive, but If I had to I would get by just fine with 2mb of RAM and floppies.. So I consider having a 100mb zip disk a luxury, it almost seems like overkill lol.

Of course it depends on your work methods, but I'd rather have different disks for different projects than to have it all on one disk.. It's just personal preferances tho..

I meant usb zip drive to hook up to your computer. That works right? So you can have a zip 100 external USB drive hooked up to your computer and those disks will be read by the internal zip drive in the MPC and vice-versa right?

Yes. It will work just as long as you format the disks on your computer to FAT 16 (under Win XP). The disk should work in both.
You can also partition the Zip disk on the MPC so you can divide up your samples and programs. I haven't tried it and I don't know how the PC would read the Zip disk with the partitions.

Hook up the USB Zip drive to the computer.
That way you can transfer your disks back and forth from MPC to computer.
You don't really need a Zip drive for your PC unless you are going to edit the samples from the MPC with another music editing program like Sound Forge, Cool Edit or Wavelab.
But getting a Zip drive for the PC does help.
