Delay FX trick on the XL

Just found out a way to get a delay effect on samples that I thought would be good to share with you guys

Pick the sample you want to have a delay on. Go into the trim menu and loop the sample. Then go into the program parameters of the sound and make the decay longer. Now when you hit the pad, the sample will repeat itself, but because of the decay each repeat will be of a lesser volume.

This trick is awesome on hi hats....or on snares (try looping a very small section of it and raising the decay value).

If you have a looped up sample (say a 2 bar loop) you want to play continuously (maybe to freestyle or get your samples/drums worked out) follow these steps.

(the sequencer shouldn't be running)
1. Put the looped sample in DRUM1
2. Put the other samples you'd like to use while the looped sample is playing in DRUM2
3. Create a track in the sequencer for DRUM2 (leave the sequencer set on this track)
4. Open PROGRAM -> DRUM 1
5. Hold down the pad your looped sample is on
6. Press MAIN SCREEN (don't let go off the looped pad until the MAIN SCREEN is back)

A note off is never sent....sample should now continue looping until the DRUM1 is activated on the track. It shouldn't interfere with the looping if you start running the sequencer now.

Yeah, I accidentally stumbled upon the same thing some time ago, but making the "delayed" sample match with your track's BPM is too much work IMO unless I'm missing something obvious/ingenious.

higher decay values = longer delay; it isn't easy to get it exact but you can get in the ballpark. just don't make large adjustments to it

i don't know if the delay is straight line or logarithmic but i know the min/max millisecond values for the decay envelope are somewhere in the manual.

this is called 'loop in release' ....
great for bass....

this also works on the 2000 classic.
I used the mode on/off mode to stop the delay.
