Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

What's up gangsters.

Boy am I glad to see a community out there, forum and all. I just acquired an MPC-2000XL and was worried I was gonna have to deal w/ it on my own.

I am trying to install an internal zip. I read I could use a standard "IDE ribbon" to connect the zip drive to my board. Problem is, after I opened up the MPC and had everything in place, the freakin' IDE ribbon cable wouldn't go in. A further look showed me that the IDE ribbon had a pin that was closed up; blocking it from insertion to the MPC's port. I gutted every computer in my house and saw that every IDE ribbon I can find is missing that freaking cable.

Am I missing something? Is there some sort of "special" ribbon I need? Did I get the wrong drive?

great photos, so finally a good set of specifics to address this issue.

you can take an exacto (box cutta) and a pin to hollow out that hole on the cable... you can even cut it from the side inward... it dont gotta be pretty or neat or any of that so long as the extra pin has a spot to go without breaking it off.

OR you can go to a computer shop and buy one that doesn't have that hole filled in but you might have to look at several cables before finding one.

peace.

Your recommendation worked perfectly.

Thanks for the quick response.

The MPC didn't wanna take the ZIP drive but I put in the little MASTER-SLAVE pin and it worked like a charm.

good to hear it man, and thats it... the mpc ide line only can handle one channel so master is the right move.
