just bought an mpc-2000 classic, strange sound problem.

i just received my mpc-2000 which i recently bought on ebay from a seller with good feedback.
it's a standard mpc-2000 with memory expanded to 32mb.
i've just been playing around on it, hitting in simple loops. after a little while of the loop playing (can be 1 minute, can be 5 mins) the sound starts messing up completely, sounds like when you set the buffer rate on your soundcard too low.

the sounds trigger fine with the pads some of the time, but the crap sound is still there.
all those drum samples were recorded right into the mpc with the OS floppy in the drive.

since i'm so new to mpc's, i have no idea what this could be! hope it isn't something unfixable.

FIrstly check your cable connections...
use different ones as well

Secondly check your sound card or whatever you use...

Also check the headphone output....

Eliminate to where the problem might be....
and scrible arround with ya cables

Thats is the first step before assuming the MPC is ILL

definitely not my soundcard as i had it going straight into the mixer.
tried every output and its still the same, it's definitely not any of my cables.

Re-seat the RAAAAAAAMMM!!!!

will give that a go when i'm in the studio tomorrow, might have come loose in transit.

re-seated the ram yesterday and it was working fine, now i'm back in the studio and the sound is totally messed. no sample sounding at all, just that strange digital noise every time. could the ram be busted? maybe need to buy some new ram.

PROBABLY SORTED YOUR PROBLEM BUT I HAD EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. LUCKILY I HAD 32MEG OF MUTEC
RAM LYING AROUND STUCK IT IN AND IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. IVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH CLASSIC AND XL B4.
WHILST CHANGING FILTER ENVOLOPE IN PLAY SOMETIMES THEY WOULD JUST RANDOMLY FREEZE AND A LOAD OF
NUMBERS APPEAR ON THE SCREEN. IF YOU DO BUY RAM MAKE SURE YOU BUY GOOD STUFF.

yeah take the ram out entirely and make a beat and see if that happens again. dont bother loading an old beat because you may not have enough ram in it.


if the problem doesn't happen then take that ram out to the sidewalk and stomp it down!

i wasnt aware you could operate with zero ram.. nice a couple threds back a kid is having same problem.

you cant... the machine comes stock with 2 megs built into the mother board.

I would try to clean the contacts of the RAM and the RAM slot first (with a qtip and some electronic cleaning fluid or isopropyl), but if this wouldn't help ....take it out to the sidewalk.........

when i heard the mp3, it made me think it was one of two things... 1. YOUR MPC HAS GAS! 2. It must be the ram because it sounds like your trying to run FL Studio 9 on a PC with the same specs as an MPC 2000....

But, anyway this is a question i was looking to have answered also.... Tho I didn't actually receive my MPC 2000 yet, this was one of those "What If...?" questions i had floating around in my head...

yeah man, just make sure you put the proper ram with the correct specs in the machine and you're golden.
