Finally got my first mpc!!! need some advice tho!!!

what up mpc forums, i just became a member here, n i wanna say after much much reading of this site and others, such as future producers...i finally am gettin my first mpc.

i will be gettin an mpc 2000xl in two days. It comes with the 8 outs installed and only 16 gigs of ram. I have a few questions...

1. i wanna max my ram out (to 32 gigs), how much should this cost to upgrade the ram from 16 to 32? i dont wanna get ripped off.
2. how much would an eb-16 (effects board) cost. I really would love to eq and add come compression and reverb to my drums right in the mpc (rather then doin in it my daw before i load my drum samples).
3. Do i need an effects board in order to filter basslines? From what i understand u can filter in the 2000xl without the effects board, currect?
4. what comes stock in the mpc 2000xl, a zip drive or a floppy disk drive? Im not exactly sure which one this mpc that im getting has...im also pretty confused as to how the floppy/zip drives work. do u use them to simply load samples (drum sounds and what not) into the mpc and also save your songs/sequences? i am under the impression that the mpc can store up to 20 songs directly in the machine itself, am i wrong?
5. the xl can timestretch/pitch stretch and change the bpm/speed of your sample/loop, right?

sorry if some of these questions are a lil rediculous...thanks for any advice/feedback you guys can give, its much appreciated.

1, check on ebay, spend no more than 25.00 for the memory!

2, the effect's board, between 200 & 350 (you have *718* in your name so I'm guessing you live in NY. shop around online, also give rouge music a call they might have one!

3, I'm not sure.

4, floppy,16 Mb, you got to goggle the spec's

5, i think you can go on the akai site and download the manual!

You can basically drop the Hi's, Raise the Mid's & Low's and do the "Low End Theory" which gives u a natural baseline from the sample. i have yet to try it on the 2kxl but i can do it on the 500

hey man thanks, i really appreciate the feedback and the help...the mpc has a zip drive i know that for a fact im just not sure if its a 100mb or a 250mb.

quick question though... now im going to have to buy a zip drive for my computer so that i can load my drums/samples (wav files) onto the zip cards n then load the sounds into my mpc right? n i can save my songs/projects from the mpc to the zip cards right?

Do NOT buy that parallel zip drive - PCs no longer have parallel ports and even though you can buy a parallel to USB adapter, they are very buggy and why bother, when you can just buy a USB zip drive and cut out the middleman.

You can tell if the zip drive in your MPC is a 100 or 250 by the little number on the front. Then buy yourself a 100 or 250 USB zip drive - they are plentiful on eBay.

yeah get a USB drive to back up your project files on your computer hard drive... maybe transfer sounds too if you want..... however the MPC has a left and right record in that you can sample any sound from your computer and all that.... so I suggest using it because samplers are for sampling. might as well use the feature!
