Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

when i resample it freezes everytime, i tried resampling roughly 5 times and it froze everytime. I even tried canceling but it didnt work it remained frozen. Also, this is really strange...When im in trim mode, the play x button works on every setting besides the one that says "before to". Its a big pain cuz i feel like thats the most important "play x setting" for looping purposes.

the two glitches are sort of minor and i think ill be able to work around them but its a shame. Cuz i planned on resampling some of my drums in 12 bit. Not to mention looping is kind of a pain without being able to press play x under the "before to" setting.

is resampling really that important, im kinda under the impression that its not one hundred percent needed, only if u wanna resample into another bit depth. And u guys got any looping/zone/chopping tricks for me, now knowing that my "before to, play x" button has that glitch in it? i figured i could set my zone numbers real low (if its a 2 bar loop, i could set my zone numbers to 2, and play x under the zone setting) and loop under the zone tab in trim mode...ANY THOUGHTS?

when i bought it, it had 16 gigs of ram, so i took it to rogue music (manhattan) n they upgraded it to 32 gigs (max ram). But when the dude opened it up to install the other 16 gigs, the 16 gig strip that was already in there was out of the slot (kinda slanted). The dude snapped it back in n wiggled it around to see i it was now installed right, it appeared to be in there good. Also the 8 outs that were installed needed to be screwed in, the previous owner had them lightly installed, causing them to almost move freely inside the machine...the guy at rogue fixed everything, everything seemed to be installed currectly but the previous owner clearly didnt treat the machine right...

that being said, the machine works great besides the two things i listed, could it be possible the 16 gigs of ram that was already installed was damaged? or maybe the 8 outs messed something up?...maybe i could try reinstalling the os version 1.14, cuz i have an internal zip drive.

is resampling really that important besides resampling to say 12 bit to make drums sound a lil more grimey? n i believe i can work around the "play x: before to" issue, itl just be kind of a pain...any thoughts?

i know this is a lot but im trying to get used to my new mp...also in the manual it says u should have the record volume knob (the pinkish one) turned all the way up when sampling something. When i do that i get a terrible noise (i think its white noise), so i have to keep the knob roughly 1/4 of the way turned and the master volume knob at roughly half way turned up, is this normal or is there a problem?

Are you definitely sure it is freezing?
The MPC2000XL is not particularly powerful for this type of operation and the process takes some time.
While it is processing you cannot navigate the machine. The controls will not resond.
If you are trying to resample a loop, it may take 5 or 10 minutes depending on the length and quality you are trying to use.

Try resampling a simple kick drum on low quality to test it.
That should take no more than a couple of minutes to process. Then you will know if it's freezing on you.

yeah I've only tried loops, I actually sat there and waited for roughly 20 min cuz I had read that resampling can take a long time...and I also tried canceling it after a while and it simply didn't respond. I guess I'll have to live with no resampling, it's not a big deal I guess.

I'm more concerned with the play x button anyone got any advice or suggestions?

I think this is user error.....like troy said....try resampling a drum, the 386 in your machine isn't made for resampling loops.

as for the before x functionality....it will play what is before the start marker on the trim screen.

I never feel the need to use it. I don't think it's one of the better functions.
If I want 12 bit , I use the appropriate machine.
I wouldn't let it spoil your day. :D :D :D

Yeah no doubt...thanx for the help guys I appreciate it!

My ideal sampler to go with my mpc would be the s950 but I ain't got money for that. It'd be nice to use for 12 bit drums.

Btw u guys were right, resampling works when I just do it to one shot drums, like one snare or kick, etc...thanks for the help guys, I guess the xl just can't really handle Resampling long loops.

t.r.o.y.

chop your loop first. then resample the chops. And i have an s950 i dont use at all. im willing to part for real cheap.

If your interested.

I'm deff interested in the 950, I've wanted one for a while now, I was actually thinking about gettin one when I was using f.l. To gritty my loops up before sampling them into Edison...

Would u recommend it to go along with my 2000xl? I was thinking I would use it a lot for my drums and filtering basslines, I heard good things about using it to filter...
