slow internal zip drive?

hey folks, i have several 2000XL's, and one of them has an internal zip drive i didnt install, and it runs much slower than my other ones.

any ideas on how to fix? should i replace, or is it related to the internal jumpers on the drive? thanks, rj

Do what i ma about to do. Get a CF drive.

I am sick and tired of losing data due to corrupted disks and I think that a 4 gig card will last me for a few years!

As far as the slowdown, I don't know for sure, but all of mine that have broken have shown their impending demise in various ways, clicking, refusing to register, hanging, coughing, hacking, wheezing, etc...

There are no jumpers that would slow the zip drive down. If it is slower, most likely it is on it's last legs and about to fail altogether. We have very inexpensive internal ATAPI Zip 100 and 250 drives available and you could replace the zip drive in this MPC2000XL.

Of course, you would be much better off buying a cardeader drive as finnegan suggests, but possibly you cannot afford that now. So if you just need to get another zip drive, we can help you do that for just a few bucks. You can see the internal ATAPI zip drives here:

im looking to get a card reader for my xl sometime, but i dont really have any problems yet with my zip drive. My xl has an internal zip and its been fine, although i do hear a lot of complaints about them...

i guess a scsi zip and an internal card reader would be the ideal setup for an xl...
