Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By larie1 Tue Sep 28, 2010 4:36 pm
Hi everybody! I am new here so hope my questions will not upset anybody all the more so I didn't find the answers neither here nor in my manuals. I use MPC2000XL.
Well, not to be confused in terms I will try to explain my problem in easy words. For example I create simple beat of 3 tracks (kicks, hats, snares). I want to move one sound (for instance kick) a little bit back or forward. Is there any way to do that with a certain sound?? Or all I need is to erase and record again? Please help. Thanks.

From the main menu:

Move the cursor to Timing, hit open window and set the parameters to:

Note value: OFF

Shift Timing: EARLIER or LATER (selfexplaining)

Amount: 0-23 (the number of ticks you want the sample to move)

Time: the beats and bars you want to work on (you can chosse if you want the whole bar or just the second half or whatever)

Note: ALL (will work on all samples) or just hit the pad with the sample you want to move.

peace

Peterpiper, thanks for you reply, I really apreciate. And it seems that all what you explain is clear BUT
with the ''Note value: OFF'' I can not change the amount. I mean it's just stay 0 and don't react neither on spinnin
the wheel nor on knobs with digits. So I can change the amount only when there is 1/8, 1/16 and so on in field "note value" but not with OFF there. Help!

you might be right about that, it might not work if no quantisation value is selected.

in that case...
with sequencer stopped, with the track you want to move selected...

to delay the notes slightly:
main screen -> edit
choose copy
set the destination start time to be a little late
make the destination a different track
do it (paste replace is fine)
truncate the new track to the old length...you might want to do another copy of the data you will be truncating off and paste it back onto the beginning of the measure..

to move them earlier:
similar process to the above but maybe paste just before bar 2.
paste to new track.
now copy bar one, and do a merge paste onto the last bar of the same track you just created.
now remove bar 1 entirely.

make sense?
basically, you can do it, but no you can't do it without a little elbow grease if you are not using quantisation.

the important thing to remember is that you need to manually 'wrap' your loops back around, because both of these methods involve shifting the entire loop forward a bit, so if you truncate to the original length, you are potentially losing data.

edit: reading over that i realise it sounds complicated but honestly the answer is in there...just imagine creating a new copy of the track at the correct offset, then making sure the loop stays intact. both methods involve ADDING time, so you will eventually have to remove that added time and move the start/end of the loop to the other side of the loop.

edit2: 'transpose' usually refers to pitch, not time. i would say 'time shift' or something involving time.

I think this way I can move whole track not one certain sound, but anyway, thanks bro.
I see people are friendly around here.

actually you can move just one sound if you select it that way, by hitting the pad and changing it from 'all'.

the other idea is to move just the sounds you want to another track.
