Mpc 2000xl smpte option

Hello fellow mpc users.
I have a question for the mpc 2000xl.
I have the SMPTE option installed, and when I go to the midi/sync option, oddly, there is no option to turn SMPTE on. Mode only goes to midi time code or midi clock.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I cant remember for sure, but I think the physical outs are there stock but you need the 8-outs or something like that in order for it to work. I cant be 100% sure on that or how exactly it works... but I seem to remember something about those 1/4 inch jacks being on the back but you still need a card installed.

someone might be able to clear that up, I never used to use the smpte on mine.

Hello mr_debauch,
I opened up the mpc and there is a little board plugged in to the motherboard.
The card has 2 1/4" outs.
I really would like to sync my mpc with Fruity Loops (for now).
I don't have the 8 outs installed, so of not SMPTE stripe, than how else would I be able to achieve this?

BTW- I am a long time lurker, just joined today.
I have read tons of informative stuff on this site, and I really appreciate everyone who takes the time out to share knowledge here.

oh, well maybe you could sync it with midi. have you considered that as an option?

what exactly are you trying to do with the mpc hooked into fl studio? record beats from the mpc into fl studio to further work on them?

well maybe just record from the main outputs into your computer for now... that should be suitable.

you dont need midi for that though, just do it with the main outputs.

Yeah, but I want to record vocals on FL, using asio and mix my beat in. I also want to put effects on each individual track (mpc). I tried recording 1 track at a time (takes forever), and each time the tracks will have a small gap between each bar (straight L R analog recording thru breakout box.) When I play the same tracks directly on the mpc, my bars change seamlessly.

that requires tweaking... you gotta learn to seamlessly loops your bars. simple.. smpte doesn't = 8 outputs as far as I know... so you still would be 2 tracking it.

next time try loading smaller loops (sequences) into the wave traveler.... and put the start point to the beginning of the wave form. then in piano roll drag the note how long it should be and you got it looping perfect as long as your bpm is the same.

yeah 2 bars is fine

it works like the trim window in the 2000xl...

drag your wave file ( or mp3) into the wave traveler and put the "TA" button down.... left of the wave form shown in the box is the small knob for the start point... the small knob to the right is the end point adjustment.

you can take as many various cuts as you want by simply picking another key on the small keyboard at the bottom of the wave traveler window... by default it should be at c5? so anyways you make the cut and in piano roll when you click the note in on c5 you will hear the cut you made.

I have a ide/cf reader coming any day now, and I need to know what's the max size card i can use, everywhere I looked says 1 gb, but I think I read somewhere you can create partitions?
For example, if I get a 8 gb card, would I have to create 8 partitions?
And if so, how should i go about doing that?

to answer the original question, many MPCs have the SMPTE jacks installed, but the option is not available until you buy the MPC SMPTE chip and install it (dead simple).

If you really want to sync your mpc and fruity loops SMPTE is not the way to do it...midi sync would be what you are after, but yea, as homeboy has been saying, just record your beats a bar or two at a time and then loop those in fruity loops.

Actually, I'd rather midi sync, because I have a keyboard, and I'd like to be able to do more with the beat. I also want to learn more about midi anyway.

With an IDE card reader, you will be limited to 1GB of formatted, useable storage space. That doesn't necessarily mean that you cannot use CF cards larger than 1GB in capacity but 1GB is all they will format out to on the MPC2000XL.

Since you bought an IDE card reader, you will have to use os 1.2, which does not have the option to create partitions. Partitions are only available in version 1.14 (and earlier) and it would require that you use not an IDE card reader but a SCSI card reader like the CF-CARD pictured in my sig below.

I also need 8 outs and a multitrack mixer with cd burner?
