mpc 2000xl with Akai DR-8 Hard Disk Recorder question

Hello all, I am interested in purchasing an Akai DR-8 Hard Disk Recorder and I was wondering if anyone here has used this product for recording, and do you think it would serve me well.
I would like to record my music without the aid of my DAW.

Will I be able to hook up my 8 outs to record track by track like a mixer?

If there are 8 inputs, yes.
However note that the 8 outs works on a pad basis, not track basis.

Track 1 will not come out of out1...you have to set up the pads to which out they go to.
