Hi there,

Just got a 2000 xl and decided to order a kit to replace the floppy drive, I have installed the drive and evyerthing, but when I power on the 2000xl and go to load, it states there is no floppy drive, The zip drive is powering up and loading but it still looking for the floppy drive, I've heard you have to put atapi as master and this could be my problem, if it is, could anyone please tell me how to set atapi to master?

Please can someone help me, I am worried I will never getthis thing to work!!

If your zip drive is an ATAPI zip drive, then there will be 3 jumper pin sets between the 40-pin ATAPI connector and the Molex power connector on the rear of the zip drive. Those three pin sets are where you set Master, Slave or Cable Select. It should be clearly explained on a big white label that is on top of the zip drive (unless someone has peeled that label off yours). Anyhow, if you put a jumper plug on the rightmost two pins (up/down), that will set the zip drive in master mode.

Make sure that you have removed the floppy drive ribbon cable completely and that the one end of the ATAPI ribbon cable is plugged in on the MPC board and the other end is plugged into the zip drive. The cable can only connect the correct way on both ends because of a cutout in the shroud on the drive and a matching notch in the plug.

If you have all that right, then the MPC should automatically switch to ATAPI when you power it on and recognize the zip drive (assuming that the drive is good). I find it easiest to make sure that there is a Zip disk inserted into the drive before powering on the MPC.
