Akai DPS-12 LCD for MPC 2000

Hi everbody!My first post!Look, I saw a web page on the net that said you could use an Akai DPS-12 ( Dig Recorder ) LCD screen to replace the screen in a MPC 2000.It said it would work with only a small mod.Has anybody heard this and if so what kind of mod?I'm not some electro guru,so I wouldn't want to get in real deep with a mod,but for the price of a new LCD (if you can find one!! )I would pick one of these guys up on ebay in a minute! Somebody let me know if you've heard of this and what kind of mod it takes to make it work.Thanks

Hey quick question. Does anyone know if there is a cutoff point in the manufacturing run for bad screens? Or an underlying cause?

Why isn't there a problem w/ the DPS screens developing lines if it is the same screen?

I ask because I have an MPC that I bought new in 99 or so that has no problems at all. I keep the contrast really low because I was always worried about burning the screen out. And I don't think I have ever had the thing on for more than 3-5 hours at a stretch.

Any info would be appreciated. It would help take the edge off of my paranoia. A paranoia that began in earnest when I began frequenting this place.

The underlying cause of failure is heat & general wear n tear by use.

The dps units are recorders so would mainly be in use for recording/mixing which imo would probably be used for a shorter duration where as the mpc's are probably used far more.

I don't have enough information to determine manufacturing defects. It's entirely possible, and probable that the MPC and DPS screens were made in two different factories using a different heat seal machine. Basically, the failures are due to an incomplete bond made between the anisotropic adhesive and the screen's PCB or LCD glass. Accelerating this failure includes excessive heat and/or high ambient humidity levels.

The contrast adjustment does nothing to increase the life of the display. You can relax - the screen will die on its own.

the dps screen dies too, just people dont replace em, they just buy another dps. am replacing the screen on mine, but it is a pain

envision, you gotta print that banner out on to plastic film like material and that will be the scratch protector on the new screens when you ship it out

Have you announced a price yet for these new screens? If so, what is it? I'm looking forward to replacing a couple on my MPCs.

Apparently Envision Electronics will be selling them through mpcstuff.com, so they will not be the ones setting the price. To be honest I think mpcstuff.com will probably be raping our wallets based on the prices for everything else they sell.

Well. If THAT'S true then fvck it. I really think the markup on MPC stuff is really really really shitty. They should be ashamed. But more than that, people shouldn't buy it. They'd get the message then.

That really is much too bad. I doubt the prices will be anywhere near reasonable. I will instead find a few spare DPS's.
