Mpc 2000 vs Mpc 2000XL With **** up scsi

Hey Everyone! I am brand new on this board. My name is Aske and i live in Denmark

I just got a great deal on the mpc 2000 and the 2000xl. I wanted the mpc 2000 untill i saw the improvements on the xl and then got a great deal on them both.. now i can't decide..

MPC 2000 is mint and comes with external zip drive, cd reader (?) and 8 outputs. Im not that sure that im gonna use those 8 outputs, but they are nice to have anyway.
MPC 2000xl is also great condition but comes with a non working scsi port. (Maybe it is a fuse, idk really) And i dont know if i can use the internal drive. have to ask the guy tommorrow. If he tells me that i can't use the internal drive, then it dont think it will be the right choise for me at the moment, and i hate to wait for a new fuse as they are hard to find.
any thoughts on these deals? ( mpc 1000 is not in my price range right now )

Im planning to use the mpc to play live with some synths and in near future.

If you can get the XL working, that is the one to go with.
Also, you can take the 8 outs from the 2000 and put it in the XL.

However, if you are just using it to trigger synths, you might be ok with just the 2000. They are both incredible sequencers.

the xl has an internal atapi bus, so the scsi is irrelevant.

exactly... xl all the way. You probably wont be using the scsi anyways if you get the XL... cause of the IDE/ATAPI port.

But let me restate, if you are using it solely as a sequencer, then you don't really a need a zip or anything like. Internal floppy would be totally sufficient to save sequences only.
I am not the expert on differences between 2k and xl, but from what I can tell, the sampling powers are beefed up on the XL but not so much the midi. So if you are just using the midi for triggering, then the 2k might be all you need.

xl has more features suited for live performance.

true, but from what I understand the 2000 classic has a 100,000 note limit where as the 2000xl has a 300,000 note limit. That is 3 times the midi events... which can be taken up quite quickly if you are sequencing a few pieces of gear.

Yeah you probably won't use the SCSI anyway.

Another difference between the two is that the 2000 OS boots from floppy which is pretty tedious every time you turn it on ... at least I think that's true. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You're correct, you do need to boot from OS disk with the classic.

Hi Everybody! Thanks for the fast replies I appreciate it,, I think that the XL is for me. But i will still wait till i have tried both units, and then choose...
Cause' i dont really know how "**** up" the xl is. In this weekend the guy with the xl will let me try the mpc out.. If it is in good shape then i might just buy it straight of from him... If that is not the case, then i will dismiss him and return to the other seller and buy the mpc 2000 classic. Hehe /Aske

I have the XL now,but man...........i miss my 2k.The things that people always glorify about the XL can be done quicker and easier on a pc.The jog wheel is better on the 2k,and i LOVE to chop manually.I guess that's why i still use Soundforge to chop and just load them on a card and then over to the MP.I might be biased but the 2k is better IMO.But hey,to each his/her own.
