Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Atrack Sat Nov 06, 2010 5:55 am
What is the average value of the MPC 2000XL MCD. The prices I am seeing average between $850-$1000.

Are these right, or should I wait until prices come down? I am located in Canada.

I searched for this topic couldn't find any relevant threads, I apologize if it has been asked before.

Honestly, your best bet is to skip the MCD and just install your own card reader. If you find a 2000xl with a floppy drive on the cheap, cop it. Then you can install the card reader for a very reasonable price. (It's not difficult either)

Unless you really really want a blue MPC. But I can assure you that it won't make any difference.

Also, are the 8 outputs and the effects board important at all? Because either one of those might add an extra bill onto the final price. I don't have either on my 2kxl, but I've heard that the effects board is nothing to write home about.

up in canada they are more expensive... importing them is nice because it can be cheaper... but we have exchange rates and duty to take into account....

locally people tend to ask like 950 for those... I saw a blue xl mcd boxed with almost no hours of use what so ever for that price. Will the guy sell it at 950? I somehow dont think so since I find it too much but somebody might. Thats montreal though, I dont know what the TO scene is like.

my friend found an 2000xl MCD on ebay for $500 and im in LA. i dont know where it came from, but im pretty sure the auction was in california. it was maxed RAM with CF reader, which im pretty sure is stock, but thats it. no 8 outs or FX.

he got a sweet deal even though cosmetically there was some scratches or what seemed like paint chipping on the front near the data wheel, but everything felt new/hardly used - pads, buttons, screen was nice, no dead pixels, wheel was solid... and im comparing it to my OG 2kXL which ive had over 8 years.

anyway id say just hold out for an older 2kXL and install the card reader yourself. in the long run you will save money and by installing a card reader youll get to learn your machine a bit more. its crazy opening an MP up and seein all of its guts. i did that with mine. swapped my never-used internal floppy for a sweet zip drive.

and soon the time will come to swap that out for a CF reader.

I like the limited edition one that looks like grey rectangles mixed around it... that one is nice (you know the one you sometimes see in the pete rock interviews)
