Classic MPC 2000 to Roland SPD-S (midi setup help)

Hey guys...I'm super new to midi setup...never done this before so i have a few questions.

1. Does anyone see any advantage to hooking up the MPC 2000 with a Roland SPD-S via a midi connetion, if so, what are the advantages?

2. If this is a possible setup, at its most basic, can you explain to me how i would set this up?

1. The advantages I can see would be (A) using the mpc sequencer, but playing the spd-s with sticks and hearing the spd-s sounds. Or, (B) using the spd-s drum pads to trigger mpc samples.

2. (A) spd midi out -> mpc midi in...then mpc midi out -> spd midi in. You will have to make sure your channels are set correctly, and i suggest checking your manuals for how to do this (I've never even seen an spd). On the mpc it comes to setting the track to MIDI and then choosing an output/channel
You would monitor the audio output from the SPD.
Think of it like a live loop pedal setup...you play the pads on the spd, record that in the mpc, and then as it loops it plays back what you just played.

(B) spd midi out->mpc midi in. You would now monitor the output from the mpc. Think of it as extending the soundset of your spd.

Basically it comes down to being a replacement for your MPC pads, or a replacement for the MPC sounds. You can also use the mpc sequencer instead of the spd one (if it has one).

Ok...i see where you're going with this. How about this scenario....


Once i get the MPC and SPD-S communicating, do you think i can use the MPC to trigger sounds that are stored on the SPD-S? Then that way, i won't need to rely on the MPC to store the sounds?

I think my scsi fuse is blown because i haven't been able to use an external scsi drive for a while now. It use to work...but not anymore...it just sits on wait. But thats another thread and i've read up on this one alot. this is the reason i'd like to get my mpc to trigger sound store on my SPD.

These things must be satisfied to trigger the SPD from MPC:
1) midi out mpc -> midi in spd
2) track on mpc, unmuted, set to midi, correct output (a or b), correct channel (1-16) (where you would normally set the 'drum' program)
3) spd set to receive on the same channel set above.
4) spd audio out to speakers / headphones
