I've looked into it, briefly, but I don't think there is an open spec out there...a couple of people have cracked it though - mpceditor and chicken systems I believe.
If you have a hex editor, just open up a PGM or APS file...assuming you have lots of samples in there, you will start to see at least the spots where filename is stored. It looked like the format was pretty straightforward and consistent...ie. filling blank areas with zeros so things stay the same size. My guess is that program parameters are stored in a similar, orderly fashion.
I have not done much else besides glance at it and try to see what I could see at first glance...and there you have it. I'm very interested in this too and will help you if I can. Keep us updated on your progress in this thread.
The APS file is the one that needs cracking because I don't believe mpceditor handles those.
